Lobster Cove, 1916

The peninsula called Annisquam is bordered by Ipswich Bay (Atlantic Ocean), the Annisquam River (which makes Gloucester an island), and Lobster Cove. The cove is protected, and therefore a preferred anchorage and mooring area. Judging by the lack of boats in Lobster Cove, this looks to be spring (May 26th to be exact). Annisquam is across the cove, and Wingaersheek is in the distance across the Annisquam River. The geography of Cape Ann is a visual buffet for photographers and painters, and its beauty is here for all to enjoy.

The Annisquam Village Library has sent out this notice. Elinor’s last play reading was a true delight. This one may be even better.  All GMG readers know Elinor from the wonderful photos she submits regularly to the blog, under Squam Creative.  Now you can get to know her as a playwright and director too.

On February 21st, ONE EVENING IN MAY written and directed by local author and resident, Elinor Teele, will be presented in a reading with fellow actors in the Library at 8 o’clock. Annisquam thespian, Beebe Nelson, will be one of the participants.
The plot follows the fortunes of the Greenwood family over the course of one magical May night. Nick, the patriarch, is attempting to keep crows from devouring his rare cultivar. Nora, his wife, is trying to ensure his wearing trousers. Rose, their daughter and an army veteran, is at war with her precocious son, Will, who is at odds with her mustachioed partner, Peter. Lust, lunacy ad a duel or two must ensue before love can conquer all.

No, they haven’t moved from downtown, but you will find the beautiful hand painted silk scarves of Ten Pound Studio artists at the Annisquam Arts & Crafts Show this coming Saturday and Sunday, 10/12 & 13 from 10:00-5:00 at the Annisquam Village Hall, 34 Leonard Street.

This morning I commuted to work on the bus. The newly fallen snow was beautiful. My camera was in the backpack, so I filmed the ride from Folly Cove to Downtown Gloucester, including Lanesville, Annisquam, Bay View, Riverdale, and the City. Enjoy! — at Gloucester, Massachusetts.
