-and Paul Boudreau assured me there will be a beer tent!

If you haven’t seen the spectacle that is cyclocross at The Gran Prix of Gloucester, mark your calendar now!  I’ve heard from many many folks that you just won’t believe the action.  It’s one of the best spectator sports around.

Ron Schrank Has Some Nice Things To Say

Ron writes-

Hey Joey,

We haven’t met but I live in Gloucester and we really enjoy your blog/web site.

My reason for this contact is to thank you for the great coverage of the Fish Box Derby. The post by Patrick really made my day as the father of two adult girls and the Papa of Alexis and Ava who won this years event.

Your coverage of all things Gloucester is beyond compare and I can only imagine the time and effort you put into this thing. Keep up the great work and know that your efforts are appreciated.

Ron Schrank

Well Ron we ain’t done yet.

Hi Joey,

Thank you for your excellent coverage of the Lanesville Music Festival last week.  We appreciate it!  We had a great day, with beautiful weather, fabulous music, great food and fine people (and dogs!).  Our day included initiating our beloved mayor as an official "Lanesvillain."  I’m attaching pics of some of the highlights.

2011 Coastsweep Event Last Thursday Pics From Howard Amaral

Hello Joey, Here are several pics of Coastsweep at Plum Cove Beach, Homie was there to represent!

The Cleancity Initiative sponsored a Coastsweep Event at Plum Cove Beach Thursday. Each year volunteers clean and collect data from what they pick up, and submit it to the Ocean Conservatory in Washington D.C. The data is collected from the entire east coast and used to help define what materials are littering our waterways and beaches, and work towards environmental solutions to reduce or redefine how the materials are used. There are more Coastsweep events scheduled for this fall, please volunteer to help out.

Video- 2011 September GMG Old Cuban Cigar and Folly Cove Rum Sail Aboard The Thomas E Lannon

Filmed With My Cheapo $79 Kodak Playsport Zx3 and using the Kayalu nClamp.

Some points about taking video-

The more steady you can hold your camera, the more pleasing the resulting video will be.  One way to accomplish this is holding your camera very steady.  You need to be very conscious of framing your shot properly and keeping the camera steady.  the much easier way is to use a tripod, or mount.  Using a mount or tripod there is no camera shake and your results will look immeasurably better than if you try to hand hold the camera.

Obviously carrying a huge tripod around can be cumbersome and you all know my feelings on being able to keep your camera gear on you to be able to capture the shots as they happen.  So many times a tripod is not going to be the answer.

The manfrotto modopocket which screws right into the universal camera mount and folds flush with the bottom of my camera is my number one camera accessory that I feel can help any photographer achieve much better results, especially with poor light (with good light photography is a snap, you just point and shoot and you don’t have to worry about camera shake because the time the lens will be open is so much shorter).

But for this application I used the kayalu nClamp with the toughbar extension.  Literally I screwed the Kodak Playsport Zx3 onto the Toughbar and clamped it onto a bolt that was attached to the mast, framed the shot and pressed record.  In this way I could sit back and enjoy the company on the boat and we got a nice video capturing the scene.
