As a part of Gloucester’s So Salty celebration, the Sawyer Free Library invites you to learn more about Salt Island. This Saturday, January 22 at 2 pm join researcher Mary Ellen Lepionka for a virtual presentation on the history of Salt Island. After, Jayne & Andy Knott of Save Salt Island and Denton Crews of Friends of Good Harbor Beach will present on recent efforts to preserve this area.

On Monday afternoon went over to Black and White Beach, there was a lot of damage from the tides. The beauty of after the storm was also there.

After Pickleball and the elliptical machine I wandered down to the Bliss Bites Cafe at the Y and had this delicious Quinoa, toasted sweet potato, chickpea and feta bowl for $6.50.
Healthy, delicious, reasonably priced and satisfying. I’ve been longing for a place I can reliably go and not blow my diet in one meal. Bliss Bites Cafe is that place!
I took a little time yesterday to drive by the boulevard and around the back shore. Here are some of the photos I took of the waves and surf from Windy Izzy. Debris was all over the roads from the previous high tide and early morning winds. While we dodged the snow the ocean sure was stormy.
I like to try new restaurants and I keep the Serenitee restaurants at the top of that list for obvious reasons (rewards and points for example). Not one of them has disappointed me so we decided to take the half hour or so ride up 133 to give The Spot in Georgetown a try.
It was easy to find, easy to park. We were greeted warmly and served efficiently by Nathaniel. There’s a large bar area with some seating as well as a separate area with tables. When we arrived, it was fairly quiet but soon filled up. Several young families were there which indicates a friendly atmosphere and menu for a wide range of customers. I had the Rueben and Jim has the chicken sandwich. We each cleaned our plates and were too full for dessert. I am glad we took the ride to give this a try. We will return. Thanks Serenitee for the friendly atmosphere and delicious foods in each location.
Join National Heritage Fellow Harold Burnham, and his Apprentice KD for an update on their progress for the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Traditional Arts Apprenticeship. After a hiatus for the summer sailing season Harold & KD are back working on the rehabilitation of Sylvina W. Beal, the return home of Schooner Isabella, and all manner of shipyard nonsense.
This series of events will run through the spring of 2022, kicking off on January the 25th at 7PM via Zoom.

When/Where: From now until Feb 14th the cards will be on sale at Local Colors, 121 Main Street.
How it works: For every purchase of a predetermined selection of Valentines day cards the buyer will be able to vote for their charity of choice. Each card equals a vote. At the end of the sale the votes will be tallied and the one with the highest vote will be awarded the funds.
