Good news from the Cape Ann Museum that library hours have expanded to allow researchers more time to work. The Cape Ann Museum library and archives hold a special place in my heart as that is where I finally located the breakthrough documentation I needed to allow Gloucester fisherman John Handran to receive the recognition he deserved. This is a Twitter screenshot with details:
And, in additional good news for researchers everywhere, the 1950 US Census will be released in just 39 days! It’s a 72 year wait for the census to be released and it happens only every 10 years so many researchers have itchy fingers to research this latest census release. What will you be wanting to know from the 1950 census???
And click here to get the Cape Ann Waterfront Guide. It’s full of all the Gloucester and Rockport winter activity: ACT, SOLD and UAG properties, with prices, photos, remarks and data. Timely information to learn the market and make a smart decision when “OMGosh! That’s the one!” comes on the market.
The Rockport Rotary Club will be producing a 2023 raffle calendar as their fundraiser this year and is requesting submissions for the 12 months and the cover. The photos should be taken of Rockport and can include images of our waterfront and fishing industry, town events such as parades, historical places, quarries and ocean scenes just to name a few. The contest will run from February 20th to March 14th. Please submit high quality minimum 3.0 mb photos to photos@rockportrotary.org and include your name, mailing address, email and phone number. A stipend of $50 will be awarded to each successful photographer.

Moving to Heal NEW TIME Thursdays at 1:30 PM
Moving to Heal Nia is a slower, less intensive class with less standing and more done in the chair. Great for people with injuries or conditions that make it hard to participate in a classic Nia class. Also good for people getting back into exercise. For more info on Moving to Heal, see the info and videos on my web site or click here
In this crazy season, treat yourself to an hour of peace, relaxation and restoration. Lovely passive practice aimed at quieting the nervous system, mind and body.
Find some cushions, large books, yoga blocks, blankets, whatever you can…
The City of Gloucester is experiencing operational issues with the parking kiosks. We will NOT be enforcing METER VIOLATIONS until the issues are resolved. We will be sure to inform residents of changes in meter operations and enforcement.
Parking Enforcement will continue to enforce all other parking violations.
We continue to encourage employees of Main Street businesses to park in the municipal lots adjacent to Main Street to allow for more customer parking and increased business.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we resolve the problem, please report any meter maintenance issues here.

The award winning film CODA, filmed largely in Gloucester and up for 3 Academy Awards (including Best Picture!) will be available FREE in selected theaters around the country next weekend Feb 25-27 2022. Although it appears Gloucester is not one of those selected cities, it will be shown in Brookline and it would pay to check to see if it’s near wherever you are. I highly recommend seeing it, especially on the big screen. To check for tickets in your area click here.

That’ll be 15 years, crazy. With help from my friends of course.
In 15 years time I only missed two days posting. Most days creating 6-9 posts a day. Videos, photos, podcasts, jokes, editorials, promoting local businesses, going on the occasional rant against injustices. most days I’m up at 4am creating 2-4 posts that I’ll schedule for 6AM, 10AM, 11:45AM, Then throughout the morning after getting through the morning rush at work I’ll get a 1&2PM post scheduled and then as the day rolls on 5,6,7 and 8PM. Thankfully the team fills in with solid contributions so that we have posts every hour on the hour and they have fresh unique perspectives that make it much more interesting than if we’re just me doing it in my own.
But through all of it the very best part is the friendships made along the way.
The people that jumped in to help contribute are all like minded with a love of Gloucester are some of my favorite people to hang out with and create. Out of all the people that we’ve brought on only one probably wasn’t in it for the right reasons.
It’s an honor to head up our production and be able to communicate with my friends that love it just as much. It wouldn’t be the same if it was just my voice. And a huge thank you to the viewers who write in comments. They play a huge role in keeping all of us motivated to produce the best content we can.
15 years coming up. Do the math. That’s a crazy amount of commitment. Thanks to the best team in the local media business, we’re just as motivated as ever to keep pushing, technologically and creatively to bring the best of our community to you.

And so it begins. My Eloise who was 5 and a half months old when I published my first blog post on GMG, is now looking at colleges.
Huge thanks to Cosmo Palazola, son of my former roommate Tom PAL for showing us around the school, which is basically smack dab in the heart of the city.
After breakfast at new joint Bodega, touring the school and grabbing lunch at roofdeck spot “The Watch” we headed out to Shem Creek which came highly recommended by Mark Ring who may or may not have nearly drowned when trying to swim across Shem Creek with his fishing boots on.
