Local environmental organizations will be joining Sea Scout 5 on the Harbor Loop Saturday May 21 from 11-1 to unveil a newly installed water refill station. This refillable water station behind the Harbormaster’s Office was made possible, in part, by a grant from National Marine Sanctuary Foundation with support from the City of Gloucester and NOAA.
The Skipper of Sea Scout 5 is Lynn Colletti and she invited me down to a meeting they were having to wrap up details for the event since I cannot attend myself. A representative from Earth Echo , Sean Russell, joined the meeting virtually to offer support and suggestions to those present including Nicolette Stamos, Aidan Rosell, Eleanor Melvin and Gavin Natti. Other members include Tessa and Catherine Peterman, Jackson and Tim Ketchopulos, Sierra and Greg Pargett, Emma, Becci and Nellie Sheerin, Congratulations to all on your fine work.
All are welcome to stop down at the Harbor Loop for Saturday’s event between 11-1. For additional information, check out the Good Morning Gloucester post from James Eves outlining additional details

Don’t miss the Annisquam Plant Sale at the Annisquam Village Hall, Saturday May 21st, 8am – 12 noon. They always have a great selection so make a plan to stop in.

WARMING SPRINGTIME CLIMES PAIR NICELY WITH TWO VALUE-PRICED ROSES FROM FRANCE HEADLINING SAVOUR-SATURDAYโS MAY 21STย COMPLIMENTARYย FINE WINE TASTING, CONTRASTED WITH BOLD, STRUCTURED, COMPLEX REDS & WHITE FROM FOUR EMERGING WEST COAST ARTISAN VINTNERS – HORSE HEAVEN HILLS ANYONE? – COMPLEMENTING GRILLING ACTIVITY & SEASONAL PRODUCE, ALL FROM THE ECLECTIC PORTFOLIO OF WINE MERCHANT HARRY โZโย ย ย

WHAT & WHYโฆWhile grilling season is getting a boost from warming temps, Saturdayโs tasters
will be treated to four muscular and complex bottles, a full-bodied red & white from California, a bold Washington Cabernet blend, and a truly complex Oregon Pinot Noir that Harry will explain. Recognizing farmersโ markets with native produce are beginning to popup, our
two French Rose offerings, one from Corsica, match beautifully with spring-summer salads and the obligatory baguette. We import our popular frozen baguettes from Canada, a must try.
Always complimentary tastings, with the experience elevated sipping from imported Riedel stemware.
WHO: Join guest host, wine merchant, Harry Zakades, owner Main Street Wines together with Savorโs Kathleen Morgan, who have chosen wines primarily from small, independent, innovative vintnersโฆyouโll be traveling up our West Coast landing in France, selections that match the grilling and emerging native produce seasons
WHEN: This Saturday, May 21st, from 2pm to 4pm + โฆ @ Savour
HOW:ย Saturday tastings are complimentary, as is parking behind the store with rear entrance.

Saturdayโs Pourings include:
Vineyard Block Estate, 827 Reserve Chardonnay, Santa Lucia Highlands, CA, 2019, Alc. 14.5%, Varietals: Chardonnay, Tasting: Chardonnay grown in the cool climes of Santa Lucia Highlands retains a notable freshness, due to acidity in the grapes. This wine features fruit flavors of yellow apple and pineapple alongside notes of vanilla bean and toasted brioche. Lively acidity and a full-bodied mouthfeel lead to a soft finish. A powerful white wine.
Pairs Well: Mushroom-forward dishes, grilled pork chops, Vegetarian, rich fish ( salmon, tuna) roast chicken, Rating: The Wine Buyer 92ptsโฆ. $17.99
Domaine Vetriccie Ile de Beaute Rose, 2021, Corsica, Fr. 2021, Alc. 12%
Varietals: Sciacarello, Grenache, Tasting: From this scenic estate, the wine, properly pale in color, has attractive freshness and bright acidity. It shows red currant and a light peppery edge, with a fine, perfumed fruitiness and lingering aftertaste. Drink now with a nice chill, Pairs Well: a variety of cold and warm salads especially a Caprese delight , all green vegetables, Vegetarian, and a baguette, of course, Rating: Wine Enthusiast 88pts โฆ $9.99
L’ Esprit de Jeanne la Tourbeille Rose, Bordeaux Rose, 2021, Alc. 13%
Varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Tasting: Produced from old vines, this particularly rich wine has spice and pepper to go with the fruit. Ripe, food-friendly flavors take away some of the freshness of the wine, giving a rounded, smooth aftertaste. Drink now and again, with a nice chill for this crisp, dry rose. Pairs Well: fresh fruit, hard and soft cheese, all manner of summer salads, Vegetarian, again accompany a baguette, charcuterie – uncured meats, Rating: Wine Enthusiast 88pts โฆ$14.99
Panther Creek Winemakers’ Cuvee, Willamette Valley, Oregon, 2019, Alc. 14.1%
Varietals: Pinot Noir, Tasting: A wonderfully complex Pinot, with a meal or without. Dark garnet color, semi-opaque. Beautiful but soft aroma of red cherry, ripe stone fruit with hints of cola and vanilla. Off dry taste of stone fruit, moving to strong ripe cherry, then becoming quite dry with citrus and spice at the end. Medium to long finish, where the fine tannins appear.
Pairs Well: braised short ribs, veal dishes, game (deer, venison) grilled chicken breastโฆ$27.99
Dead Canyon Ranch Cabernet, Mercer Estates, Horse Heaven Hills, Washington, 2019 Alc. 14.1Varietals: Shiraz/Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Tasting: Aromas of ripe black fruit with notes of baked blackberry pie, warm baking spices and earthly undertones. The voluminous fruit carries through while powdery tannins yield a bold, structured wine that maintains an elegant feel with a soft velvety finish. Pairs Well: grilled lamb chops, grilled ribeye, game (deer, venison), grilled chicken thighsโฆ.$17.99
Gait Zinfandel, Howell Mt., North Coast, Napa Valley, CA, 2018, Alc. 14.7
Varietals:ย 100% Zinfandel,ย Tasting:ย dMade from 100% Zinfandel, the 2018 Zinfandel is deep garnet-purple colored, sashaying out of the glass with bold, open-knit scents of warm blackberries, cracked pepper, spice box and raspberry pie, plus hints of hoisin and fruitcake. Full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-filling black fruit preserves flavors textured by chewy tannins, finishing long and spicy.ย Pairs Well:ย roast leg of lamb, standing rib roast, roasted whole chicken, artisan cheese burgers,ย Rating:ย Robert Parker 91pts, Jeb Dunnuck 95ptsโฆ $21.99
