Cari Mac is looking for this couple who she photographed
Early yesterday, we were in our boat and happened upon a gorgeous young couple posing on the rocky shore of Gloucester. They were having their wedding photos taken by their wedding photogs. I was out with my long lens capturing ocean wildlife but could not resist snapping a few images of this couple from my vantage point… I do not know who they are and do not wish to be too invasive so posted here are only two low-res jpeg images without showing their faces… Message me and I would be most happy to gift these two newlyweds with the high resolution images if they so choose. Cari Mac… Congratulations!

Deftly Askew at Cove Gallery
Rocky Neck Art Colony is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition, Deftly Askew, at the Cove Gallery, 37 Rocky Neck Ave., Gloucester, MA. The show will run from August 18 through September 18.
Artists Helen Tory, Patricia Wellenkamp, Laurel Rogers, and Tobi Klein employ a variety of mediums: paper, metal, paint, wax, and more but with a commonality that makes for a cohesive and vibrant connection. There is a search for expression and balance in using multiple pieces to create harmonious wholes. The rough edges, rich layering, and exploration of textures, inspire the boundaries of each work of art to be somewhat “askew” in its representation. However, there is careful and “deft” thought in this organic creative process.
Laurel Rogers melds her extensive knowledge of papermaking, marbling and book binding skills with a lyrical design sense to create engaging and beautiful sculptures, books and journals.
Patricia Wellenkamp stamps, etches, chases, roll prints, gilds, braids and rivets to add texture to the mixed metals that she uses in creating elegant, one of a kind jewelry pieces.
Tobi Klein’s work has taken her in two directions: graceful woven metal sculptures, and two-dimensional mono-prints/collages. A variety of techniques and materials, in both arenas, elicit surprising, yet connected results. The subtle play of energy and calm remain a constant in all of her pieces.
Helen Tory oil paints on clayboard and other rigid surfaces. Monotypes or etchings are collaged on top. Graphite powder, pen and ink or oil paint is added and then detracted using steel wool, eraser or cloth. The resulting images are evocative and powerful.
The Cove Gallery, run by the Rocky Neck Art Colony, is the former home and gallery space of beloved Rocky Neck artists Gordon and Judith Goetemann. Cove continues the tradition set by the Goetemanns of showing the best in local art and is made possible thanks to the generosity of Mark Goetemann, their son.

Jimmy, We Aren’t in Gloucester Anymore
Some of you may know we are vacationing in the Seattle/San Juan Islands. Much of coastal Friday Harbor is similar to our own island: fishing industry, whale watching, and stunning views. But here was a sobering reminder that we are most certainly no longer on the east coast. More travelogue to come!

St. Peter’s Landing on a Pretty Summer Day
Some views from St. Peter’s Landing on a beautiful summer morning several days ago. If you are not “home” (where you belong), maybe you need to see this…….

I had to wait out this skunk at 3AM
We had to come offload bait early before our lobster boats come in and first thing I do is walk up to the street and put up the “OPEN” sign.
We this skunk was right next to the sign post trying it’s hardest to stick it’s head into a can of pringles (wasn’t happening).
I made some noise and it lifted it’s tail and I moved a little further away, but it wouldn’t move.
Total Mexican standoff with that stubborn skunk.
Finally it left, I put the sign up and we were open for business.
LANESVILLE SHOWED UP IN FORCE!
Thanks to all who cam out to support local folks that work very hard to serve our community!
