It was a perfect day for a pub atmosphere and I craved a BLT from Stones on Main St, so off we went. On this rainy weekday, there were a few people with the same idea. We sat in the side room which is done up very nicely with high tops as well as some armchair seating. Ali was our server and she was attentive and efficient. I had the BLT I’d been craving and Jim ordered is “usual” peanut butter burger. It was a relaxed, festive lunch and we were fueled up to go on with our day.

To usher in the quadricentennial year, on Dec. 31, Gloucester 400+ will put on a โball dropโ bash at City Hall, taking place as the clock turns to midnight in the cityโs namesake of Gloucester, England and in Dorset, England, which four centuries ago sent out the band of English fisherman who would build a settlement here.
โCountdown to 2023!โ will take place Saturday, Dec. 31, at 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Gloucester City Hall, with hot chocolate and cookies being served, and noisemakers supplied for all. Mayor Greg Verga and 400+ tri-Chair Bob Gillis will be counting to the stroke of midnight in the United Kingdom (at 7 p.m. here). The event is free and open to all comers.
Kate and I are going to feature one or two local places to buy holiday gifts each day highlighting the fact that thereโs no need to buy your presents online or trudge up to the mall.

Four of nine siblings–Joseph, Gene, Vic and Ed Urick– were a big singing sensation. I’m listening to a compilation of The Ames Brothers singing classic Christmas songs. Their voices are stunning. Fans know Ed from his acting and solo singing career as well. I didn’t know they were from Massachusetts or their Ukrainian heritage.
“In 1956, they starred in their own show, The Ames Brothers Show, which was seen on Friday nights. It was the first syndicated television show to be shown in foreign countries…
When I was teaching, I worked closely with the yearbook advisor and I am here to tell you it’s a huge undertaking each and every year. The fundraising is always the hardest part, so I plan to go to Bravo tonight for our dinner. Great food AND I get to support the yearbook. Win Win. Sharing their Facebook post. Order online or in person.
