FaceTimed with Scottie Mac this morning. 15 minutes he kept firing off one liners!

He’s frail but getting better now that he’s getting the care he needs. Thanked the entire community and wants to have a huge party this summer at Stage Fort Park and he’ll DJ

Update:

He has Collapsed lung,
Broken clavicle, broken ribs, nasal bone fracture and
still bleeding in the
Brain and fracture in the scull of his head. Basically the nurse said it’s a good thing he got here when he did it would’ve been a major problem with his lungs

Opening Weekend @ Jane Deering Gallery- ‘George Wingate : Letters / Words / and.’ Saturday Jan 21st and Sunday Jan 22nd

Our Opening Weekend is Saturday January 21st (11-5pm) and Sunday January 22nd (1-4pm) to coincide with the 2nd Annual Gloucester So Salty.  George Wingate opens the season with ‘Letters / Words / and.’  In the words of an artist friend, George is a postmodernist, a minimalist, a sculptor, a poet and an all over evocator. I would add he is a wordsmith; he invigorates the mind. Had I had a mentor like George in school, life and thoughts would have been richer.

Come whenever you can.

Come often during 2023; it’s Gloucester’s 400th and there will be lots to view.

The gallery welcomes all.

The next Old Sloop Presents concert will be Saturday, January 28.  The show is a co-bill: Lisa and Sean will play together, and Corey Laitman and Sam Perry will play together as Cloudbelly.

Our concert page, with more information and links for tickets is at https://oldslooppresents.org/performance/lisa-sean-cloudbelly-2023.

Here is a video of Lisa and Sean performing Lisa’s song “Pockets Full of Sighs”: https://youtu.be/azn0Unl9N7o. Add here is a video of Cloudbelly performing their song Carnival: https://youtu.be/b7TBh2KFz0M.

Gloucester 400+ “Overture” Celebration — pat morss

This year we are, of course, celebrating Gloucester’s 400+ Anniversary (the “+” is for the centuries native peoples were here before Europeans, and for the years that are yet to come). The Overture was televised locally, and the Gloucester Times had comprehensive coverage, so this is more my personal view of this opening event of the year-long celebration.

Members of multiple services and organizations uniting to present the colors.
Marching on stage.
Great pride.
Members of the Cape Ann Symphony performed pieces composed by our local Robert Bradshaw
Mayor Verga was impressed by Allessandro Shoc’s rendering of the National Anthem.
State Senator Bruce Tarr, Master of Ceremonies, introduced Joey Porcello.
Joey is Gloucester’s Ambassador to Massachussets Project 351 (each town and city).
Bruce congratulated him, as we look to the future.
Allen Estes sang Gloucester’s song “Where’d They Go?” which he wrote.
Great Energy!
Allen and Bruce are two more terrific ambassadors for Cape Ann.
State Rep Ann-Margaret Ferrante introduced Grace Carey, a student at GMGI.
Grace is an image of our faith in the next generatio.
David Walt is the charismatic co-founder of the Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI).
His keynote speech about Gloucester’s potential in the next century was stirring.
