The public is invited to share photos and get involved with the City’s long-range planning.

Gloucester, Mass. (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) — Gloucester will hold an open house to begin the community involvement portion of its Comprehensive Plan.

The city recently contracted with JM Goldson, an independent planning firm, to help develop its first Comprehensive Plan since 2001. This plan is long-range, visionary, and primarily focused on the city’s physical and social evolution.

Gloucester’s Comprehensive Plan will guide local decision makers over the next ten years in topics including:

  • Land use
  • Demographics & housing
  • Employment and economic development conditions
  • Open space, natural resources, and sustainability
  • Cultural and historic resources
  • Transportation
  • Public services and facilitiesPhase I, which launched in June 2023, is a fact-finding mission intended to work solely with local subject matter experts to define Gloucester’s existing conditions. The city is working with the consultant team to launch Phase II this fall, which will begin the broader public engagement process. As a part of this process, the project team will be offering multiple opportunities for Gloucester community members to get involved and help shape the city’s future.Gloucester community members are invited to help create a photo library of Gloucester’s special places. The goal is to collect photos to include in the Existing Conditions Profile and other future Comprehensive Plan documents and marketing materials. What: Gloucester Comprehensive Plan Open House

Honeycomb in Hamilton

Honeycomb in Hamilton! We always talk about the many wonderful options for grabbing beach/boat food in Gloucester, but last Saturday we went on a boat ride with my sister…leaving from her slip in Essex. My mother went to Honeycomb in Hamilton and grabbed some unbelievably delicious breakfast sandwiches for us to eat on the boat. If you’re in that area and looking for a bite stop by! 248 Bay Road, Hamilton Ma

Martime Gloucester With Kids On A Rainy Day

We are entertaining family this week and needed to find some appropriate activities for children on a rainy day. What better place to go than Maritime Gloucester on the Harbor Loop? Of course, we were far from the only families with the same idea, but the staff accommodated everyone with grace and efficiency. AND the children had a great time! If you haven’t been there lately, it’s past time to check it out maybe before school starts up again.

Cape Ann Y Golf Tournament

The Glen T. MacLeod Cape Ann YMCA is preparing for its second annual Golf Tournament, to be held on Monday, October 2, 2023! This outstanding event is raising funds to benefit the children and families in our Cape Ann service area with a demonstrated financial need.

This year, the goal is to provide nearly a million dollars in financial assistance for childcare, memberships, and specialized sports and wellness programs, including Cornerstone which provides complimentary access to our facility and support programming for those battling cancer.
Because of the generosity of the business and individuals in our community, we not only have the Y that Cape Ann truly deserves but we can also provide hope, health, and healing to friends, neighbors, and families in our communities. 100% of the proceeds raised will go directly into the Glen T. MacLeod YMCA’s financial assistance program.

The tournament is open to all individuals who enjoy playing golf and want to make a difference. Businesses can support by providing items to go in the raffle and/or sponsorship. Register and learn more here.

Here is one example of how life-changing financial assistance can be for our friends and neighbors:

This membership changed my life. As a single mom, the amount of resources offered to me at the Y is numerous. Being able to bring my child with me to the Kids’ Club while I explore new fitness opportunities has helped me reclaim my body and my life. I love trying new classes and programs- even things that are out of my comfort zone are made welcoming by how kind the instructors are and the culture created by other Y members. I never would have seen myself going to “strength train together” or “rise and shine boot camp” but the Y has allowed me to make fitness a central part of my life, in a way that no other gym could. The offerings at the Cape Ann YMCA feel akin to a boutique gym but are accessible to people like me with limited resources. Thank you.
