A Really Good Morning, Gloucester

A really good morning, Gloucester. My early bird is hoping to get the fish. Finn worked hard on the Yankee Fleet this summer. The owner, captains, and crew were all so kind and amazing to him! It was such a fantastic learning experience! Finn loves fishing and I try to embrace that as much as possible because it’s something I hope he does for the rest of his life. He bought himself a new deep-sea fishing rod and reel the other day. And was super excited to use it. So, he woke up at 3:45 in the morning and went out as a passenger rather than a crew member….and he sent me this photo.

O’Maley Field Hockey Vs Saugus

As many of you are aware, GMG Jim is coaching the O’Maley field hockey team, which is comprised of about 35 sixth and seventh grade girls. I was invited to attend their third game of the season against Saugus a couple of days ago and was quite impressed with the skills and teamwork demonstrated in the 6-0 win for O’Maley! The future for GHS field hockey looks bright. PS Tonight at Jalapenos on Main St: GHS Field Hockey Fund Raiser!

Fishing At Little River Landing

There was quite a bit of fishing going on at Little River Landing along Essex Ave. in the rain as the tide was coming in a couple of days ago. We stopped by because I have been chasing the belted kingfisher I have spotted there a few times in the last several weeks. Sure enough, he was also fishing along with ducks and egrets. In fact, TWO of them showed up! They are among my favorites with their darting and loud chirping as they fish with superb skill. I stood there in the rain quite a while watching. This appeared to be a male/female pair and I understand they pair up for mating season then find new partners the following year.

Miscellaneous and a Hurricane — pat morss

A few photos that didn’t fit my earlier themes, and Hurricane Lee.

I’m gonna be out-a balance growing only one antler.
Giant Barnstable (MA) shell from Beauport Hotel Oystrer Bar. I didn’t order a half dozen.
A reminder on the corner at Ocean Alliance – what to expect from hurricanes this century.
Super Blue Moon (2nd in 1 month) setting behind the Eastern Point Light radio tower.
A Garter Snake wants to come in to watch the Labor Day schooner races.
Rods at the ready on Wicked Tuna TV series boat ‘Hot Tuna,’ in Smith Cove.
Artist studio (?) overlooking Smith Cove, on Rocky Neck.
Magnificent mushrooms enjoying the wet weather.
“Red sun at night, sailor’s delight.” Really? Just before Hurricane Lee hit.
Lee wasn’t intimidating on our “lee” shore.
Swells from the east were countered by the northwest wind.
Winding down with a quiet sunset.
