Spots of Backyard Color

The oppressive heat over the weekend forced me to slow down and just observe nature in our backyard. The heat did not seem to slow down the bird activities. We had several spots of color appear in the form of woodpeckers and orioles. I’m not sure where the cardinals went during the heat wave, but we haven’t seen too many. We were grateful for the entertainment these provided though.

Another great Beach day at Good Harbor

Wonderful Wednesday at Good Harbor Beach., with many smiling beach goers.   The ocean was telling a story.  The Purple and Red flags were hanging from the light guard stand.  The Red Flag is for rough seas and purple for marine life, such as jelly fish.  I did not see any jelly fish.  The Purple Flag does not indicate sharks.  It was a beauty of a day.

An ‘American Lady’ found our butterfly bushes.

Celebrating the 4th with a sail on Troll. Eastern Point Yacht Club.

The styles of all three grew more abstract later in life. Here is the comparison for Mark Rothko.

The museum’s 20-month renovation created fresh spaces for telling about Gloucester’s heritage.

A Killdeer bird at Good Harbor Beach

This bird was right next to my truck in the parking lot at Good Harbor Beach.

Reblogged  from the Audubon Website.

Widespread, common, and conspicuous, the Killdeer calls its name as it flies over farmland and other open country. Like other members of the plover family, this species is often found at the water’s edge, but it also lives in pastures and fields far from water. At times, it nests on gravel roofs or on lawns. Many a person has been fooled by the bird’s ‘broken-wing’ act, in which it flutters along the ground in a show of injury, luring intruders away from its nest.

Final day of registration for the 2026 Blackburn Challenge!

Head on over to https://www.capeannrowingclub.com and get in those last-minute entries!

And don’t forget about our 40th Anniversary gathering at Cape Ann Marina / Mile Marker One on Thursday, July 9th from 6pm to 9pm. We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone, and we do mean everyone — all are welcome! Wear a Blackburn shirt if you have one!
