Treworgy Bros Lost At Sea Off Cape Ann

Hi Joey,

I’m wondering if you might know of a local repository in the Gloucester area that might include a record of marine events from the latter part of the 18th century?

I’m trying to find any details and source material on the disastrous December blizzard event that claimed the lives of brothers Spencer Treworgy, Jacob Treworgy, & James Treworgy off of Cape Ann. The various dates given agree on the month of December, but the year of the event varies from as early as 2 Dec 1776, 12 Dec 1777, to Dec 1789. The men were bound from the area of Blue Hill/ Surry/ Ellsworth with a load of lumber sailing to Boston. Below is one account.

Cape Ann Plein Air – Quick Draw — pat morss

I enjoy attending the Quick Draw event of the annual Cape Ann Plein Air Week because all the artists are in a concentrated area for the same two hours of painting.

This year’s Quick Draw took place in Manchester-by-the-Sea.
Strong wind gusts were a hazard – she’s hunkered down holding her small tripod.
It looks deceptively calm on the inner harbor, but numerous easels blew over.
It was quieter where Karen Fitzgerald was painting the Manchester Historical Museum.
Painting at the intersection of Central, School and Union Streets.
The two-hour time limit was up, so I took a walk around downtown during the judging.
Additional guest artists, invited just for the Quick Draw, were judged outside.
The 35 artists registered for the week-long competition set up inside.
Tim Kelly took first place among those fully registered.
Judge Lori Putnam promised a hug for all winners, here delivering with Tim.
Time for the public to buy paintings, and for the spider (right) to go home.

Video- Good Morning Gloucester French Onion Soup Tour Stop One- The Rhumb Line

With Summer slamming to a close and it being cold and raw out we’re gonna do a roundup of the best French Onion Soup around town, probably including all of Cape Ann.

First stop was The Rhumb Line and as noted in the video, I’m reserving the right to go back to this one stop after we finish up everyone else as you can’t really give an accurate score without a baseline. So the Rhumbline came in with a pretty good score in our first review based on a bunch of criteria which I think we can all agree on- served in a proper French Onion soup crock, the cheese be the right mix and crusted over the top, the broth be hearty and most importantly, flavor.

here’s the Rhumb Line. please nominate local place where you think they have great French Onion soup for us to try. I already have nominations of Minglewood, 525. Let me know where you think we should go.

2024 Magtoberfest Fun day

On Sunday, October 13, 2024, the 4th annual Magtoberfest occurred.  First, I would like to thank all who came out to support all the local vendors and food trucks and restaurants.  Even the though the weather was not great it was a great turnout.  Thank you to the Cape Ann Makers Market and the Magnolia Community Library committee.  They were all extraordinary.
