Happy July 4th weekend!
After a hectic weekend of parties, parades, and fireworks, being out on a Taste Glocester tour sounds like the perfect way to keep the fun going!
We’re having an awesome Taste Gloucester tour 11:30am – 2:00pm today and we still have room. With four new tour guides and a great crew of helpers for our large groups, we’re planning new tours and special events, Cape Ann Foodie Tours has a multitude of activities to offer visitors as well as locals!
If you have people interested in going with us today, have them call us and we’ll give them a 10% discount, plus waive the service fee!
And, I may steal the idea from Rockport’s Lawn Chair Drill Team group in the parade and have a tour sometime where guests bring lawn or beach chairs. Thought they were a riot!
Enjoy and we’d love to host one of your employees on a tour sometime soon, so that they can let your guests know all about them!
Kind regards,CindyP.S. Tours go out Rain or Shine – Which makes them the perfect choice for a day like today!

We were fortunate enough to be invited to take a boat ride with our friends Susan and Leo earlier this week. It was a perfect day and we headed to Beverly/Salem/Marblehead. All of this is new for us so we appreciated the extra knowledge offered by both Susan and Leo about these areas as seen from the water. In the Salem area, we got to see the schooner Fame as well as the When and If out sailing which we considered a big bonus.
To our surprise, the When and If followed us to our own Gloucester Harbor for a little spin around just as Isabella, Ardelle and Thomas E. Lannon set sail for their 6 PM sails and Tuesday weekly schooner challenge. It was a spectacular sight and a wondrous surprise! A schooner mini fest! I was taken aback as I did not plan for this and didn’t have quite the right gear with me, but here are some memories to share.

Sista Felicia, Barry and Ed Collard Crushed it with help from Everyone including Jeremy Frost and a ton of others. This video from Craig Kimberley catches the spirit!

Park’n’Play…

Sea Scouts Ship 5 crew and adult volunteers from Gloucester MA belonging to BSA Spirit of Adventure Council, chartered by Gloucester Elks Lodge 892, were joined by Sea Scout Ship 1791 Newburyport MA for the Coast Guard Auxiliary Annual District Training at the Woburn, MA Hilton.
Coast Guard Auxiliary District Training is a weekend of appropriate and effective training for all Auxiliarists in All Disciplines and spans the following directorates: Response, Prevention, Vessel Examination, Public Education, Public Outreach, Public Affairs and training. Operational Auxiliary courses (AUXOP) ensures that the latest Policies, Procedures and Techniques are continually incorporated into the Auxiliary Certification Courses, Public Education Courses, Mandatory Workshops, and Mandated Training.
The weekend event marked the first time Sea Scouts were invited to join the Auxiliarist at their annual Northern District Training event. The Sea Scouts from Ship 5 and Ship 1791 were honored to participate in morning colors, leading the Auxiliarist in the Pledge of Allegiance. Additionally, the scouts were provided the opportunity to monitor District Training classes and assist in the event as needed.
Ship 5 would like to thank the Coast Guard Auxiliary for including the Sea Scouts in this unique experience. We are continually inspired by their dedication.

At the time of this writing, this mural was nearly finished down at the Fort. I spoke briefly with the artist Josh Falk who received an Awesome Gloucester grant for his work. Thanks to the neighborhood and the property owners for cooperation and ideas! I think it’s beautiful. Congratulations Josh and Gloucester!
Sharing a screenshot of a Facebook post with some additional details. Thanks Down the Fort and Sal Zerilli. I expect by the time you see this post, the mural will be complete and I encourage you to check it out.
**Just received a photo from Sharon Swan I thought I would include as well. Thanks Sharon for sharing it!**

Happy 4th! Enjoy William Gillespie with the gorgeous solo from the George Washington finale number (George M. Cohan samples Battle Hymn of the Republic in You’re a Grand Old Flag); and two clips with James Cagney as Cohan: dancing down the White House stairs; and on the dock because Gloucester and the fireworks signal from the ocean liner 🙂
