FINE WINE AND CHEESE TASTING @ SAVOUR WITH KATHLEEN AND SUSAN THIS SATURDAY, July 20, 2 – 4 pm

COMPLIMENTARY

FINE WINE AND CHEESE TASTING @ SAVOUR WITH KATHLEEN AND SUSAN

We are giving our wine reps a little time off on these lovely summer weekends so they can spend that time with family. Rather than the usual formal wine tasting, we are offering an informal cheese and wine tasting. Susan and I will be here to pour and discuss the wines and the classic pairings we are featuring, such as goat cheese and Sauvignon Blanc.

Also, just to let you know, my family will be flying in from Phoenix this evening and staying until Thursday. Since my time is very limited with them, I will be closing Savour for ONE DAY (Tuesday, July 23) so I can spend the day with my daughter and her family, as well as my husband’s son, who is also flying in from Phoenix. I am sure they will all enjoy the beautiful, much cooler weather here on Cape Ann. We will be open Wednesday – Saturday of next week, for the usual hours of 11 am until 6 pm. Thank you for your understanding.

Gloucester Police Complete Move Back into First Floor of Station Following Renovations

Gloucester Police Complete Move Back into First Floor of Station Following Renovations
GLOUCESTER — Chief Edward Conley is pleased to announce that Gloucester Police have moved back into the first floor of their station following a year of renovations. Gloucester Police officially moved back into the station’s first floor at 197 Main St. last week with dispatch operations moving back on July 9 and administrative offices reopening on July 10. The police station became fully operational and open to the public on Friday, July 12.   Renovations for the station’s first floor began last year, and the department was temporarily moved to the second floor, which was previously occupied by Gloucester District Court. Major improvements to the first-floor space include a completely renovated male locker room and the addition of the department’s first female locker room, upgrades of safety equipment and fire sprinklers, and updated radio and dispatch equipment to meet modern standards.   Additionally, the detention facility located on the first floor has undergone complete modernization to enhance officer and detainee safety, including new fixtures, video recording equipment, fire safety equipment, and a detainee decontamination station.  The newly renovated Gloucester Police Department is now ADA-compliant.  While the police department was operating out of its temporary location on the second floor, all individuals arrested in Gloucester were transported to the Rockport Police Department for booking and temporary detention.  The second-floor court area will now undergo renovations consistent with the first floor, with an estimated completion date of early February 2025, at which time Gloucester District Court will reopen. During first-floor improvements, Gloucester District Court temporarily moved from its location to Peabody where it will continue operations until competition.   “I am incredibly proud of our entire team. Completing a full renovation without disrupting emergency services was an immense task. There is still more work to be done, and we look forward to its completion,” said Chief Conley. “Special thanks to Chief Horvath and the men and women of the Rockport Police Department for allowing us to use their detention facility during this time. Additionally, thanks to Beauport Ambulance for assisting with medical transport from RPD.”

Big and Small Through A New Lens

I recently treated myself to a new camera lens and these are some of the first images. I’m not unhappy. It seems to be good to larger and small subjects! Looking forward to more experimentation. The hummingbirds are fighting for space at the feeder with bees which you can see here if you look carefully. The eagle just seems to be seeking a cool perch along the river on these muggy days.

Reason you never leave the beach

On Monday it started to thunder and lightning late in the afternoon.  Of course, I went and sat in my truck for 5 minutes and the sun came back out.

Many Happy Days Ahead For This Couple

We were down on the Maritime Gloucester Pier in the rain and fog recently as this group was waiting to board the Ardelle for a wedding! You never know what you will see down there! Like magic, the skies cleared a bit and the rain stopped for the procession to begin. It was a privilege to watch this unfold. Congratulations and best wishes.

Enjoy an evening of classical dance from India. This double-bill Indian classical recital is from 7:30pm- 9:00pm on Friday, August 16th at Windhover Center for the Performing Arts

Enjoy an evening of classical dance from India. This double-bill Indian classical recital is from 7:30pm- 9:00pm on Friday, August 16th at Windhover Center for the Performing Arts and will feature Bharatanatyam and Kathak and consist of four ensemble pieces and two solo pieces.

About Bharatanatyam:

Bharatanatyam is the most popular classical dance form of India, with sculptural

evidence dating back nearly 2000 years. The dance in its present form originates from the Hindu temples in Southern India and is about 200 years old. It is a dedicatory style with strong undertones of spirituality. At the same time, the Bharatanatyam vocabulary framework lends itself well to modern day subjects and continues to evolve as a living performance art.

About Kathak:

Kathak is a classical dance from Northern India uniquely characterized by its use of

intricate and powerful footwork, rhythm, music, mathematics, and subtleties of expression to weave together compositions and stories. Each of India’s classical dance forms embodies both the intricacies of beauty and grace as well as tremendous powerful movement, rhythm, and expression.

Artist Bios:

Soumya Rajaram is a well-known Bharatanatyam dancer in the Boston area with

over two decades of performance experience across the USA and India. A grant

recipient from the Cultural Council of Massachusetts and New England Foundation

for the Arts, Soumya is featured regularly at the New England Folk Festival, Jose

Mateo Ballet theater, The Dance Complex and at the prestigious annual dance

festivals in Chennai, India. Soumya has over 15 years of teaching experience,

training her students for a full-length evening recital. Her experience also includes

guest lectures and teaching at The Jose Mateo Ballet theater, UMass Boston, Salem

State University and Harvard University.

Anjali Nath is an accomplished Kathak performer and teacher, dedicated to bringing meaningful experiences to diverse audiences, students, and educators through high caliber, interactive performances, classes, and workshops. She toured for 8 years with the Chitresh Das Dance Company and dedicated 22 years to growing Das’ Chhandam school and affiliated Chhandika, training the next generation of kathak artists. Anjali continues to expand her contributions to the art through her creative and ever-evolving teaching, solo, and collaborative work rooted in tradition.  Anjali is on faculty at Harvard University’s Dance Center and the Dance Complex in Cambridge, MA.

We are pleased to announce the ninth season of our free outdoor concert series, Music on Meetinghouse Green, opening this Friday July 5th with remarks by Mayor Greg Verga at 6:00pm.  Following tradition, the John Baboian Ensemble from the Berklee School of Music will be performing and the free-will donations from the audience will go to Pathways for Children for their extraordinary work in early childhood education.  The Lobster Roller will be on hand, offering delicious seafood for your picnicking delight.

Concerts are held on the green in front of the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church at the corner of Middle and Church Street. This first event will be held indoors, in the downstairs Church social hall, because the restoration of the green is behind schedule.  All events proceed rain or shine, going indoors if the weather is inclement.

The press release for the whole summer festival is attached, plus the poster and the two-sided season cards with the individual concert information.  Please share these through your media channels and encourage your subscribers to come out on Friday evenings for the great music, camaraderie, and to support Cape Ann non-profits.
