Meet Dahlia and Petunia! Originally from North Carolina, these adorable girls are ready to start the next chapter of their lives with families to call their very own. They came into rescue with their mom and sisters after their owner became ill and could no longer care for them. These sweet, social puppies were raised with their mom until they were 8 weeks old in a loving home, giving them a wonderful start in life. They absolutely love attention, enjoy meeting new people, and are sure to make fantastic family companions. Wondering what breed they are? Your guess is as good as ours! While we don’t know their mix, we do know their mom weighs about 35 pounds, so that gives a little clue about their potential adult size.If you’re looking for a loyal companion and a lifetime of happy memories, Dahlia or Petunia could be the perfect addition to your family.
Dahlia has joined our extended stay club, meaning her fee has been reduced in hopes to help her find her forever home!

GLOUCESTER, MA – Gloucester’s Main Street is becoming an outdoor art gallery this summer as eight local and regional artists transform storefront windows into vibrant public murals through Imagining Gloucester’s Future, a new public art initiative celebrating Gloucester’s identity, creativity, and future.
Developed by Miranda Aisling, Arts, Culture & Events Coordinator for the City of Gloucester, the project is presented in partnership with the 2025–2026 Making it Public Program and made possible through support from the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC).
The project invited artists to imagine Gloucester’s future through themes such as community, art, fishing, tourism, and the city’s unique coastal landscape. By bringing original artwork into the heart of downtown, the initiative activates Main Street with engaging, place-based art that reflects Gloucester’s rich culture while encouraging residents and visitors to experience the downtown in a new way. Artists began installing the murals on July 30. All eight murals are expected to be completed by August 14 and will remain on display through the week of November 9.
Following a selection process led by the Gloucester Committee for the Arts, eight artists were paired with downtown businesses that volunteered their storefront windows as canvases:
Mike Grimaldi (Gloucester, MA) – Saluti, 272 Main Street
Eliza Jane Seastone (Ipswich, MA) – Nellie’s, 260 Main Street
Dennis R. Darkeem (Bronx, NY) – Revive Wellness, 232 Main Street
Jennifer Loiselle (Methuen, MA) – Laura and Company Hair Salon, 222 Main Street
Bruce Orr (Beverly, MA) – Coastal Wave Salon, 220 Main Street
Kirk Larsen (Hicksville, NY) – Local Colors, 121 Main Street
Quest Nine (Lowell, MA) – Highliner Hotel, 108 Main Street
Brian Murphy (Beverly, MA) – Imperial Insurance Agency, 1 Main Street, Unit 9
An interactive map of all mural locations is available here.
To celebrate the completion of the project, the City of Gloucester and the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce will host an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, August 21, from 3:00PM to 4:00PM at Saluti, 272 Main Street. Following the ceremony, attendees are encouraged to walk Main Street and experience all eight murals.
The murals will also be featured during the Harbortown Cultural District’s second annual From the Deep festival on Saturday, November 7, from 11:00AM to 5:00PM, offering another opportunity for residents and visitors to explore the public art installation while enjoying the festival’s programming.

Can taking students outside improve academic performance, build resilience, and foster a deeper connection to their communities? According to nationally recognized educator and author David Sobel, the answer is an absolute “yes!”
Environmental nonprofit 400 Trees,in collaboration with the Sawyer Free Library, will host a free community presentation led by Sobel: “Bringing the Classroom Outdoors: How Nature-Based Education Improves Student Performance and Resilience,” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 at the Annisquam Village Hall, 34 Leonard St., Gloucester.
Sobel, Professor Emeritus in the Education Department at Antioch University New England, is one of the country’s leading voices on child development, nature-based learning, and place-based education. For more than 30 years, he has worked with schools, environmental organizations, and the National Park Service to help educators connect classroom learning with the natural and cultural resources found in their own communities.
During the presentation, Sobel will share research and real-world examples demonstrating how place-based education can enhance student achievement while nurturing curiosity, confidence, and resilience. Drawing on successful programs across the United States, he will illustrate how using local neighborhoods, landscapes, and community resources as living classrooms creates richer educational experiences for students of all ages.
Sobel has written ten books and more than 90 articles on children, nature, and education. His books include Beyond Ecophobia, Place-based Education: Connecting Classrooms and Communities, Childhood and Nature: Design Principles for Educators, and Wild Play: Parenting Adventures in the Great Outdoors. This program is part of the ongoing Tree Talks lecture series produced by 400 Trees, a Gloucester-based nonprofit created to engage youth and plant trees.
