Monarch Butterfly Explosion!

Monarch butterfly explosion ©Kim Smith 2014Monarch Butterfly Explosion!

I am back from Mexico and, although there for less than a week, there was much to take in. My most sincerest thanks to all our readers for your safe-travels well-wishes and kind thoughts!

The butterflies were dazzling and beautiful beyond imagination, but also very sad. This wondrous migration of the Monarchs, which has taken place for over a million years, is in serious peril. If changes are not made very soon, the migration will end. I’ll write more about my trip and the extraordinary scientist that I traveled with, Doctor Tom Emmel, this weekend after I am all caught up with design work and photography projects. Additionally, I interviewed Dr. Emmel at the top of the Sierra Chincua Monarch Colony, located in Michoacán at 10,000 feet above sea level, and will be bringing GMG readers the full interview!

nancy graceNancy Grace began teaching about dreams in 1989, and has given presentations on dreams at retreat centers, churches, therapy centers, and colleges including Harvard, Northeastern, and Berklee College of Music. She has trained in group dream work processes with UU minister Jeremy Taylor, and with Montague Ullman, M.D.  She served for many years on the Board of Directors of the International Association for the Study of Dreams, and is a co-founder of the Cummington Community Dream Center in western Massachusetts, which has been meeting monthly for the past 10 years.

We’re gonna throw you another curveball this week and present to you a swinging night of country music featuring the Depot Cafe All-Stars. Led by the inimitable J.B. Amero, who needs no introduction and who has never eaten  broccoli in his entire life.  Manly! This will be his first time leading us blues type guys by the nose. He’ll have you crying in your beer with his buttery, plaintive versions of the Great American Country Schongbook. He’s lassoed the great Dave Brown and David Mattacks to help with the proceedings. We’re gonna be spitting Metamucil between our teeth all night long. There’ll be a contest for the best mullet in town. You’ll be drinking through the straw that broke the camel’s back! Don’t miss it!

Poptart Karma

This mom knew exactly what she was doing here didn’t she?

No kid is gonna offer up that Pop Tart.  No frickin way.  The only obvious way out for this little youngster was to head out the door and away from the evil mommy.  Mom set her up for this faceplant pure and simple.

You don’t think next time big momma asks Parker to share she’s gonna have this facial etched in her brain?  Next time she ought to up her game and lay a minefield of mousetraps along her path to the way out for a little extra effect.

You can rest assured next time Mommy Dearest asks little Parker for a pop tart she is gonna be making a bee line to mommy before she gets the wire hanger treatment. Pavlov has nothing on this mother of the year candidate.

Tough love.  Tough love indeed.

Savour Wine and Cheese Upcoming Events

Greetings! March is a busy month at Savour, starting with our first Pinot Noir Seminar, Tuesday, March 4.

unnamed-1

Our special guest is David Polite, owner and winemaker at Carlton Hill Winery in McMinnville, Oregon – the heart of the famed Wilammette Valley.  He will pour his elegant Pinot Noirs for you to taste, talk a bit about what is involved in growing this very challenging grape, and explain what it takes to make great Pinot Noir.

Come sip, savour, and learn about one of America’s most prized and elusive wines.

“Currently 11 acres in production, Carlton Hill Vineyard sits in the center of Oregon appellation Yamhill-Carlton District.  The Yamhill-Carlton appellation, which is comprised of the sedimentary remains of an ancient ocean bed, is unique in that the soils are some of the oldest in the Willamette Valley region.
And, while the Appellation is still very young, the wines produced from here reveal very distinct bright, black fruit flavors.”  David and Dan Polite, Carlton Hill Proprietors
