MOONLIGHT
PERFECT
This morning I took a quick ride over to one of my top 1,000 places to relax in Gloucester, the Rocky Neck Ave. causeway. I pulled into the parking lot that overlooks Smith Cove, opened the driver-side window and took my camera out of its case. As I was firing up the camera and checking the settings, the sound of beautiful classical guitar entered the car and surrounded me. I just sat still for a moment, believing that somehow I had become part of a movie and the soundtrack I was listening to had been perfectly matched with the beauty and serenity of the Smith Cove scene that laid before me.
When the music paused, I left the car and noticed a man on a nearby bench. Sure enough, he had a guitar in hand and was just gazing out at the calm cove waters while taking a break. He introduced himself to me as Paco and explained that he is a former professional musician who now plays mostly for his own enjoyment. He told me that he currently plays the accordion more frequently than the guitar because that instrument can more easily punch through the sound of a busy deck while he entertains passengers and crew aboard some of Gloucester’s schooners.
I was pleased to have discovered Paco at the perfect time, in the perfect place while he supplied the perfect ambiance to a perfect scene.

BREAKING: GOOD HARBOR BEACH PARKING LOT FLOODED
Folks sure had a surprise this afternoon when returning to their cars after a lovely beach day finding the Good Harbor Beach parking lot underwater. Some were angry and some panicking. I assured the panicking ones that they could get out safely. This is the second day in a row the parking lot has flooded. I’ve seen this in the spring more than once or twice but never in the fall. You can still maneuver through the lot by driving along the edge closest to the water. October’s Super Moon is the first of three in a row. I wonder what November and December’s full tides will bring.

The Inn at Castle Hill
I had a long work meeting at the Inn at Castle Hill the other day. Talking work in the adirondack chairs looking at that view is not a bad way to increase productivity and put things into perspective. Such a lovely venue and a phenomenal landscape.
Interesting to note the difference in the view as the tide rose throughout the day. At one point the road was submerged. I was thankful for the opportunity to share the day with some pretty great colleagues and to bask in beauty of quintessential fall in New England.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SUPER SPECIAL GORGEOUS 15TH AND FINAL “GLOUCESTER: A COMMUNITY OF NEIGHBORHOODS” QUILT
The East Gloucester neighborhood quilt is so beautiful it will tug at your heart strings, especially if it is your neighborhood, as it is ours. So sweetly capturing the spirit of our neighborhood, the quilt is simply a masterpiece of fun and whimsy. Monday’s unveiling at the Rose Baker center was attended by the quilters, friends, and family and we all just reveled in the beauty of the piece. JUNI VAN DYKE, YOU ARE A GIFT TO THIS COMMUNITY!The East Gloucester Quilt will be on display at both the Rocky Neck Art Association and the Cape Ann Museum. Check back as we will be posting the dates as soon as we know.

Juni and Joy Halsted – the center panel with the woman in the red bathing suit was created by Joy Halsted (and is rumored that it is she).
A note about the project: “Gloucester: A Community of Neighborhoods” was conceived by Juni Van Dyke and executed by she and her group of fiber artists. Each fabric panel measures approximately five-foot square and illustrates through iconic imagery characteristics unique to Gloucester neighborhoods. The banner’s design in it’s entirety, along with the individual artist’s whimsical designs and choice of fabrics, is utterly captivating and a vibrant visual feast. “Gloucester: A Community of Neighborhoods” quilts has its permanent home at the Cape Ann Museum.

SEAHORSE CAPTURE IN GLOUCESTER WATERS!!
Lobsterman and School Committee Member Tony Gross came home from lobstering with a pint-sized creature, a seahorse measuring just about four inches. I don’t know much about seahorses, but this looks like a Lined Seahorse. Lined Seahorses are found from Nova Scotia to Venezuela, but I also read that most generally live only as far north as Cape Cod. It probably wouldn’t survive our current cold water temperatures. Tony and his wife Abbie are giving it fresh seawater and sand fleas. According to Abbie, this little Hippocampus likes hanging out in the water bubbles.

Another amazing sunset
Took this from Magnolia Beach at sunset. Love the light shining on some of the buildings in Boston. Wonder where the airplane was going?
