Grillfriends for lunch

Thursday was a snowy day and cold, so Rick and I decided to go to lunch.  Since Grillfriends is close, thank goodness, we went there.  The service, food and atmosphere are friendly and relaxing.  We had a chicken wrap, and it was delicious.

Where There’s Irish Coffee……

Where there’s Irish Coffee….. As heard at the Beauport last night upon seeing an Irish Coffee, Chris L said “tell me Pat D is here without telling me Pat D is here.” Gave me such a chuckle. #facts

Cape Ann Artisans Open Studios Comeback Tour!

Group introduces five new artisans, media, partnerships, and a tour-route!

After a brief pause in 2024 to reflect on the 42-year-old event, the Cape Ann Artisans have refreshed the tour with new faces while other long-term members – Beth Williams and Cynthia Curtis, have stepped back to enjoy a sabbatical.    The Artisans are pleased to welcome five new members – each offering a new unique twist in their respective media.  Here’s a sneak peek at the new CAA artists:

  • From her studio on the Annisquam River, Nina Goodick shares that her passion for family and community inspires her work as a functional potter. Her gallery shelves are stacked with bowls, platters, and mugs.
  • Art composed of textiles is the focal point of Tina Frassica.  Some of Tina’s works take inspiration from traditional quilt patterns while others depart significantly from the symmetry and color palette one might expect from a quilt.
  • Katrina Abbott has always loved objects that are made by hand which have the mark of the maker on them. She brings this idea to life by hand building most of her work, each object made with a sense of its own personality and joy.
  • Watercolor Artist, Kathryn Roberts, a native of Gloucester, enjoys painting local landmarks. Her work echoes contemporary realism, with splashes of vibrant colors and translucent washes depicting local beaches, ocean waves & lighthouses on Cape Ann. She strives to bring joy, hope and emotional connections to viewers through her art.
  • Cindy Efinger creates treasures in several forms: mosaics made of glass, tiles and or crockery shards. Her inventions adorn gardens front yards, tables and some hang on walls or in windows. She also sculpts wood and incorporates her mosaics into her sculpted pieces.

Cape Ann is certainly home to many fabulous art organizations, so what really makes the Cape Ann Artisans stand out? As the group reflected on its history, it reinforced the reason that the Artisans have gained such a long-term following.

The Artisan’s tour is among the oldest studio event in the US.  It was founded in 1980 by men and women from the Gloucester/Rockport arts communities who were interested in connecting with each other to share professional and creative perspectives, and in blurring and challenging the line between art and craft. The founding members created a supportive network to survive and thrive, to grow their businesses and to cultivate their artistic visions.   The group became friends, shared knowledge, created shows and opened their studios to the public, designing a self-guided Tour that explores neighborhoods and back roads that may otherwise remain unknown to the casual traveler.   The full list of Artisans and the new tour route are shown below.  New members are marked with an asterisk.

Dinner At The Azorean

We were surprised to realize that we hadn’t been to the Azorean on Washington St in quite a while so off we went on a recent winter weekday evening. The restaurant was pretty full given it was a weekday which I always love to experience. We took note that they have re-opened on Mondays again in case that was information you didn’t have. We requested bread which arrived warm and ready for the oil dip. I ordered my favorite pizza in town…the Italian and Jim got Azorean salad with shrimp. The menu has changed a bit since the last time we were there so we were happy to find the old favorites and some new items.

We were very pleased with our selections and had enough to bring home for another meal. My dessert was a peppermint patty martini…kind of a perfect ending to a delicous and enjoyable dining experience.

Look who I ran into at the New Swanky Perry Hotel In Naples

Former Cape Ann chamber of commerce, small business person of the year Matt Anvizino! Now GM of the Perry. We will be live-streaming the first ever episode of Good Night Naples with Ralph DiGiorgio and Chris McCarthy!

I asked Chat gpt to roast Gloucester. This is what they had to say…👇🏻

Ah, Gloucester, Massachusetts. A town where the seagulls have more parking spots than the people.

 * You know, they say Gloucester is “America’s Oldest Seaport,” which is funny, because half the town smells like it’s been sitting in a fish market for a century.

 * The biggest tourist attraction? The “Man at the Wheel” statue. It’s a bronze fisherman, forever staring out at the harbor, probably wondering where he parked his boat.

 * And the accent? Forget about it! You’ll need a translator just to order a “lobstah roll.”

 * But hey, at least they have good seafood, right? As long as you don’t mind paying $50 for a clam that might have seen the Titanic.

But in all seriousness, Gloucester is a charming town with a lot to offer. It has a rich history, beautiful scenery, and friendly people. Just be sure to bring your appetite, your wallet, and maybe a phrasebook.
