Foliage views from Adirondacks

Spent a few days exploring the foliage around the Lake George area in the Adirondacks a couple weeks back and the weather was less than optimal but it made for some beautiful, saturated colors against the grey backdrop!   Lake George 2018-0257-Edit-2

Body Cast, by Azita Moradkhani
Azita Moradkhani was born in Tehran where she was exposed to Persian art and culture as well as Iranian politics, and that double exposure increased her sensitivity to the dynamics of vulnerability and violence that she explores in her work and art-making process. She received her BFA from Tehran University of Art and both her MA in Art Education and her MFA in drawing, painting & sculpture from Boston’s School of the Museum of Fine Arts & Tufts University. The female body, and its exposure to different social norms, is central to Moradkhani’s work. Through her drawings and body castings, she is examining displacement as an unnatural state we experience when we find ourselves insecure in our own body.

She was a recipient of both the Young Masters Art Prize and the Young Masters Emerging Woman Art Prize in London in 2017 and also received the Saint Botolph Club Foundation Emerging Artists Grant that same year. She was juried into the prestigious Medal Award Gala auction at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in 2015.

Find-a-Grave at Beechbrook Cemetery

There’s a free, volunteer-based online service offered through Find-a-Grave which allows people to view headstone photos taken by volunteers as a way of advancing their family history research. I am one of those volunteers and I recently re-visited Beechbrook Cemetery in hopes of fulfilling such a request. There were a number of requests on the list that day, and even though it was a little rainy, I decided to see what I might find there. Any excuse to visit this wonderful place is OK by me, rainy or not.

Sounds of children playing rang through the air off to one side, while excited dog barks filled the air coming from the opposite. I relished every minute until the raindrops threatened my camera’s well being. I did find one gravestone from the list to add to the online inventory:

Lucky for me, it was nice and easy to photograph and read.  It isn’t always so! I love searching to fill these requests, it gives me a very good feel for the cemetery’s personality. And you never know who you might run into…..I think they were Find-a-Graving too……

I’ve been playing with my new camera and as with all new gadgets…there’s a learning curve. My struggle yesterday was figuring out the focus points on my new Sony A7iii …what better way to practice than to play in the waves!

Couple Crashes Boat In Rockport On The First Day Of What Was Supposed To Be a Yearlong Trip- Doh!

From Boston 25 News

“I’m looking overboard and thinking, ‘Ok, I’m just going to have to jump in,” said Constable.

Instead of jumping in, they were able to climb up on the jetty. Rockport’s harbormasters said if they hadn’t made it off the boat on their own, the wreckage may have gone unnoticed.

“They would have been out there all night if they had not gotten off the boat,” said Scott Story, a Rockport Harbormaster.

“That’s unusual that someone can step ashore in the sea conditions that were out there,” said Rosemary Lesch, a Rockport Harbormaster.
