Long Hill Gardens in Beverly

I was looking for something a little different to do recently and took the short ride to Beverly, intrigued by the description of the Long Hill estate gardens, which were supposed to be at peak in May and June. This site is a 114 acre estate managed by the Trustees of Reservations and is open to the public free of charge.

I think I missed peak by perhaps two weeks, but there was still plenty of beauty to behold. There are also walking trails available though I did not check those out this time. My focus was on gardens. Some scenes:

Summer at Halibut Point State Park

Some pictures from a recent visit to Halibut Point State Park and the Halibut Point Reservation. It’s a wonderful place to visit and I highly recommend taking the ride over. It was a quiet day, even with the school bus load of eager youngsters.

Access to ocean views provide a place for rest or reflection:

It appears the Visitors Center Observation Tower is still under repair and I believe it is still closed.

Review: Killa Grilla Grate Break In Cook With Some Atomic Buffalo Turds

Joey Ciaramitaro's avatarNortheast BBQ

As a fan of the classic Weber 22 inch grill, one of the things that makes them so great is that they haven’t changed the dimensions of the bowl in decades making the aftermarket accessory market robust.

Knowing that you can restore a 30 year old grill that had been sitting in the corner of someone’s backyard for years and years to practically brand new with a little elbow grease gives confidence that you’re not buying some grill that is offered for a couple of years and then everything about it is changed up making it impossible to find parts.  There will always be the parts for a classic 22 inch Weber kettle kicking around (at least during my lifetime).

This Killa Grilla Grate is so beautifully overbuilt in stainless steel it’s just such a fantastic addition to my favorite kettle in which it will reside- the Ivory 22 at…

Little Art Cinema Schedule – 6/17 – 6/23

littleartcinema's avatarCape Ann Community

The Little Art has showings every night at 7PM!

This week, Monday and Tuesday, we have Ace in the Hole screening.

“Billy Wilder’s Ace in the Hole is one of the most scathing indictments of American culture ever produced by a Hollywood filmmaker. Kirk Douglas gives the fiercest performance of his career as Chuck Tatum, an amoral newspaper reporter who washes up in dead-end Albuquerque, happens upon the scoop of a lifetime, and will do anything to keep getting the lurid headlines. Wilder’s follow-up to Sunset Boulevard is an even darker vision, a no-holds-barred exposé of the American media’s appetite for sensation that has gotten only more relevant with time.”

Then from Wednesday to Sunday we have Ida Lupino’s The Bigamist.

“Ida Lupino, a star of the nineteen-forties, became a director in 1949—a great one, as seen in Film Forum’s retrospective (through Nov. 22) of her work on both…

Gloucester Public Works – DPW projects along Rogers and Thatcher

Gloucester DPW projects along Rogers by Cape Ann Savings Bank and Minglewood include necessary sidewalk and ADA crosswalk construction as well as remedying the pooling puddles at Minglewood and by St. Peter’s. They should be completed this week!

Between Good Habor Beach and Long Beach Dairy Maid, DPW manages a long standing issue of poor drainage. They’re testing clearing and rough grading at this stage.
