DERRICK HOPKINS STUPENDOUS GREASY POLE SWEEP PHOTO SLIDESHOW- FRIDAY SATURDAY SUNDAY FOR THE WIN

With three flawless walks, eighteen-year-old Gloucester ‘Farm Boy’ Derrick Hopkins sweeps the Greasy Pole competition Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Only one other walker, Jake Wood, has won three consecutive competitions. As announcers Tom Favazza, Al Millefoglie and Jimmy Tarantino joked, “he could have walked all the way to the Boulevard.”

Derrick’s Dad Rich Hopkins came out of retirement to walk with his son.

Spinning

For a variety of reasons, my typical Fiesta spent on my paddle board underneath the Greasy Pole was not to be had this year.  In fact, my time spent at Fiesta was much more fleeting than usual, but I did get down there long enough to get nauseous watching Thatch and Finn brave some rides that made me more than a bit nervous.

Sample This Clothing Store Downtown

I had the opportunity to browse around a bit at Sample This, located at the site of the former Pisces store on Main Street. You may have heard our discussion on podcast 341 published Sunday June 30. I met Joy, the proprietor and looked through her selection of sample items available from a variety of manufacturers. The space is bright and welcoming. I plan to return for some more serious browsing soon!

Afternoon at Stage Fort Park

Stage Fort Park is such a jewel.  We are lucky to have this park, playground, beach mother nature and the cupboard.

Bring on the Bonfire

Meanwhile, in Rockport. With a little something called St. Peter’s Fiesta going on in Gloucester, Rockport is busy building their famous July 4th bonfire.  Head to Back Beach after Rockport’s parade on the 4th to witness the bonfire first hand.  It’s definitely pretty cool.
