Coming in Less Than 2 Weeks, Fishtown Players & New York Actors put on Mauritius by Theresa Rebeck

Fishtown Players is back, with Theresa Rebeck’s Mauritius, a tightly-paced comedic thriller about greed, family conflict and the seedy and rarefied world of philately (the art of stamp collecting). Winner of the Eliot Norton award as best new play, Fishtown brings Mauritius to the Rogers Street Theatre in downtown Gloucester, with a cast of local favorites and friends from New York City! M. Lynda Robinson, award-winning actress, director, teacher and playwright will direct.
Jackie, (Cassie Stewart) finds an interesting stamp collection in her mother’s home, and brings it to a shop owned by Phillip, an expert on stamps (Michael McNamara, Fishtown’s Founder). Dennis (Max McNamara) is there, and wants to help Jackie. Mary, Jackie’s half sister (Lily Narbonne*) is spiritually and nostalgically connected to the stamps, and furthermore, Sterling, (Justin Genna*) Phillip’s least favorite person, and Dennis’ cohort won’t stops until he gets ahold of them.
*Members of Actors Equity Association. This production is being presented under the auspices of the Actors Equity Association Member Projects Code
Performances will occur November 1, 2, 8 and 9 (Fridays and Saturdays) at 7:30pm and November 3 and 10 (Sundays) at 5:00pm at The Rogers Street Theatre at 68 Rogers Street in Gloucester. Tickets are available on Fishtown’s website here by scrolling to the bottom of the homepage and purchasing via PayPal. Senior Center Art Project Honors Winslow Homer

GMG received an email from Juni VanDyke, Art Program Director at the Rose Baker Senior Center which stated:

IN HONOR OF THE WINSLOW HOMER SHOW AT THE CAPE ANN MUSEUM…I HAVE MOUNTED IN THE EMPTY STORE WINDOW ON PLEASANT STREET (near the Cape Ann Museum) TWO VERY IMPRESSIVE “WINSLOW HOMER RECREATIONS”  BY  OUR SENIOR CITIZENS  AT
THE ROSE BAKER SENIOR CENTER.
THE SENORS RECREATED IN PASTEL:
THE UNDERTOW      (painted by Homer in 1886) and
THE HERRING NET  (painted by Homer in 1883 ).

The email further suggested we might like to obtain pictures of these recreations to share with our readers. Please forgive the poor image quality as it proved difficult to get a nice clear shot of these large recreations through those storefronts even on a cloudy morning. The work is quite interesting and includes some additional helpful information. Thanks to Juni and the senior artists:

NILES POND SONGSTER

The melodious notes of the Song Sparrow are heard from sunup ’til sundown, spring, summer, and fall. Their beautiful song is most welcome, especially at this time of year when there are fewer songbirds on our shores and many that remain through the winter months don’t sing during the non-breeding season.

Song Sparrows have adapted to a wide variety of habitats. Despite the narrowness of the strip of land that separates freshwater Niles Pond from salty Brace Cove, Song Sparrows find plenty to forage on and excellent cover in the shrubby undergrowth found there.
