Laura Harrington poses a challenge related to the 19th Amendment|”Perfect 36″ talk hosted by Daring Democracy #RockportMA tonight

Laura asks GMG to share a reminder for tonight and writes:

I’m speaking in Rockport as part of the UU Church’s Daring Democracy series.  If you can post about it, I’d be most grateful.

We decided to sing about some unsung heroes – the women who led the fight for the right to vote. This amazing story is not in most history books, and if you can find it in high school text books, please let me know. I’ll be talking about the musical we wrote – PERFECT 36 – about the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote at the UU Church in Rockport on 11/14 @ 7. Please join me. This story – which took place in 1920 – feels a whole lot like 2020 and is more relevant than ever.

Learn more about the North Shore Gamers HERE

North Shore Gamers is a meetup group dedicated to offering gaming events that are open and welcoming to all sorts of gamers. Whether you’re an old pro or brand new to the hobby, you’ll find a place here. The organizers have made a lot of friends in this group, and enjoy providing the opportunity for others to do the same.

We generally focus on strategy games, but there’s plenty of room for all sorts of genres, from dexterity games to word games, from trivia games to trick-taking games. We also tend to focus on learning new games, and are happy to teach anyone interested in trying something new. But, we also like to revisit old favorites from time to time. If it rates well on Board Game Geek (http://www.boardgamegeek.com) (and even if not, as there are plenty of hidden gems on that site) it’ll likely get played at one of our events.

To give you an idea what to expect, here are some of the games currently getting a lot of play: Codenames, Pandemic Legacy, No Thanks!, Deep Sea Adventure, Tokaido, Dominion, 7 Wonders, and Splendor.

Pick #2: Boston International Kids Film Festival

The Boston International Kids Film Festival highlights the talent of independent filmmakers everywhere while inspiring young people to share their own stories with the world.

Welcome to a weekend of workshops and screenings of family-friendly films, both professionally and student-made, hailing from countries that span the globe!

Filmmakers Collaborative created the BIKFF in 2013 with a goal of showing kids that making a film can be a powerful way to tell a story, express your emotions, state a point of view and ( more importantly) to have fun!

By screening amazing student-made films from around the world while at the same time offering these young filmmakers a look at professionally-made films created just for them, we are enabling the next generation of filmmakers to realize the power and potential of media.

The young filmmakers that participate in FC Academy, our after-school and summer filmmaking program, are given center stage at special blocks throughout the weekend, as we screen the short films that they have created in front of their family and friends.

Combine all that with hands-on workshops on stop-motion animation, storyboarding and filmmakers meet-ups and you are in for an event that families of Greater Boston will be enjoying for years to come!

Berry Tavern

We took a ride to Danvers recently to have dinner at the Berry Tavern. One of our Gloucester friends works there and we wanted to check in with her. It was well worth the ride! Efficient, friendly service was enhanced when our waitress was thoughtful enough to bring seltzer water to assist with cleaning Jim’s stained shirt. It’s a very busy spot, even early on a Friday evening but we were served quickly as if we were alone in the restaurant. Shout out to our friend Emma!

Restorative Yoga Class Thursdays, 11:30-12:30 at MAGMA (right after Nia class that runs from 10:15-11:15am)

Restorative Yoga is a relaxing and nurturing practice that allows the body and mind to relax and well, restore.  All you need to do is sit or lie on a mat with your body supported by bolsters, blocks and blankets.  I do all the work.  No energy or expertise required for you.  The benefits of the practice include better sleep, less anxiety, gentle stretching of the body especially the chest and shoulders, etc.

Linda was was trained in level I Rest. Yoga in the Judith Lasater tradition by Ann Biasetti in Saratoga Springs.  She will soon and be attending a level II training session in the spring of 2020 to allow for more poses and therapeutic possibilities.

Here is a link to a nice description of what Restorative Yoga is.

Tonight’s full (appropriately named) Frost Moon rising between  the Twin Lights. The Frost Moon is also known as the Beaver Moon and Mourning Moon. Oh how I wish I had my tripod with me tonight, but this image is fun anyway. I think it would make a better painting.

See if you can stump him.  Good luck with that!  See you next week.  ~ Fly
