Harrier on the Hunt
We took a ride to Parker River Wildlife Refuge seeking eagles, so I was very excited to spot a white tail sailing around the marshes. Closer looks indicated it was definitely not an eagle, but a hawk; probably a Northern Harrier. It was hunting relentlessly and another even joined up briefly. It’s very intriguing to watch nature up close and personally at places like Parker River. It is well worth the ride if you like to watch birds and other animals. There are also hiking trails and beaches to visit. We have a lifetime senior pass (very reasonable) and there are several other programs for cheaper/free access. Info available here. These passes are good several federal recreation sites. Military, 4th and 5th graders are eligible for FREE passes! Check out the link above. We are very fortunate to have this resource so close to us.
In the meantime, some Norther Harrier on the hunt photos. If I am mistaken on identification, I welcome input. I am no expert beyond knowing these aren’t my eagles!

AWESOME GLOUCESTER & PERSISTENT PRODUCTS HONOR THOSE WHO HAVE MADE A LIVING “ON FISH”
In June, Awesome Gloucester commissioned Studio Fresh to create original public art to honor the legion of people in Gloucester who have made a living working “on fish” in “on land” jobs. The mural includes images of women processing fish, a lumper, and a fish cutter.
During the creation of the mural, Persistent Production, a Cape Ann based film and documentary production company, produced an original 6-minute documentary film.
The mural itself in now proudly displayed on an outdoor wall of Ocean Crest Seafood/Neptune’s Harvest in the Fort Neighborhood of Gloucester. The film will debut on November 12th at 6 PM on the Gloucester Facebook page. A community-wide conversation will also happen on November 12th at 7 PM on Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81506707722). Both events open to public.

Mary Barker’s Adventure Lights from Rocky Neck
Even though Adventure couldn’t sail this year due to the pandemic we had a very successful year. A 94-year-old wooden schooner always needs care, and lots of it. The ever expanding volunteer corps put in several thousand hours over the summer on what we called deep maintenance, scraping, painting, tarring the rig, attacking rust and rebuilding boarding floats. Now as we transition to our winter mode, Bosun Phil Dunn has strung lights from the bow to the tops of the fore and main masts, and then down to the stern of our NAtioinal Historic Landmark. We want folks to know that the ship and the organization are well and strong, and proud to be a part of the Gloucester waterfront.
