Saturday Morning’s Full Moon

Christy Juckett writes-

Hi Joey,
After reading GMG this morning and Paul’s note about an eclipse, I ran out with my camera and got shots from Niles Beach. The sliver was due to clouds and not the eclipse – this is what Wiki said: "The eclipse will occur Saturday morning, before sunrise over North America, and the moon will set before the eclipse is completed. Only Alaska and northern most Canada will be able to witness the entire event."
The graininess is from low-light & an old camera – no photoshop here!
Enjoy!

Placing Jennifer Aniston as The Hottest Woman of All Time Is Ridiculous

Mens Health magazine names Jennifer Aniston as the world’s all time sexiest woman and I have no idea whatsoever kind of crack they were smoking at the time they came up with this.

I’m not saying she’s unattractive at all but when you’re gonna put out the “all time world’s hottest woman” you lose all credibility in my eyes when you go with America’s sweetheart.

When you say sexy you think- Marilyn Monroe, Salma Hayek, Raquel Welch, Ardriana Lima, you don’t put up some skinny ass broad with no curves.

Community Stuff Saturday Version

Joe, hope this finds you well! Just wanted to start by saying I am a big fan of GMG. Having grown up in Gloucester, its a great way to keep updated on whats going on back in my hometown. Wanted to introduce myself to you, my name is Jon Goodhue, spent most of my life in Gloucester until I moved to San Diego, CA at 23 to pursue my music career. Most of my family, including my mother, sister, and grandmother still reside on Church St.! I have many friends back east, most of them Fiesta freaks as I too walk the Friday Greasy Pole every year and carry the statue every Sunday.

I’m writing this letter to you in hopes that you can help me out. After 10+ years of playin music and trying to make a career out of it, I’m finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Over the past month I have had several sit down meetings with people who have stepped up the plate and support my music. I can get into it all another time, but it has all lead to me being in the process of recording a 5 song EP that will be produced by Traa Daniels, the bass player of the well-acclaimed rock band, P.O.D, who had such singles as "Alive", "Youth Of The Nation", and "Boom!". I’m very excited as we started pre-production for the disc on Saturday and there seemed to be a lot of chemistry.

Anywho, I hope this could be some fuel for you to do a write-up on GMG, as it may benefit you as well as myself as I look to create a stronger fanbase. Let me know what you think, I have links to my work below, thanks Joe, take care!

Blue Shutters-

This is the season for giving, and over the past few weeks, friends of the Blue Shutters have been showing their holiday spirit.

This began in November, with our Taste of Latin America Open House in support of the work of Por Cristo, a group that helps the poorest of Ecuador with medicine, medical equipment and medical training.  On November 20, the Blue Shutters became a shopping bazaar for the day, where guests could purchase jewelry, scarves, blankets and other items from Ecuador – with all proceeds going to support Por Cristo’s work.  More than $2000 was raised in just a few hours, thanks to the generosity of those who joined us that day.

On December 3, the Blue Shutters held its annual tree-trimming event, and we offered special discounts to guests who brought a food item for Gloucester ’s Open Door food pantry.  Here’s our tree, with a basket of some of the donations collected that day.

image002

Donations came not only from guests, but also from friends, family and neighbors who stopped by for some holiday cheer.  Here are just some of those who were with us that afternoon and evening.

For those who’d like to see the Blue Shutters decked out for the holidays, please feel free to stop in – the innkeepers will be on hand… along with our new “snow girl” mascot that all the guys seem to enjoy.

Rudyard Kipling Quote of the Week From Greg Bover

“If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same….”
From If-  1895
Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)

Best known hereabouts for his 1897 novel Captains Courageous, Kipling was the quintessential apologist and proponent of British imperialism. He was born in Mumbai, then called Bombay, to English parents, and became famous for his poems and short stories set in India, (Gunga Din, The Jungle Book, etc). Henry James referred to him as a man of “complete genius.” He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1907, the youngest recipient of that honor. He and his young family lived in Brattleboro, Vermont from 1892 to 1896, and it was during this period that he visited Gloucester to write about fishing from the dory schooners. Kipling’s unquestioning support of the Empire was cooled by the death of his son in the First World War. He continued to write, but with less success, until his own death in 1936.
