CITY OF GLOUCESTER ANNOUNCES FAMILY-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENT AT I4-C2

GLOUCESTER, MA โ€“ The City of Gloucester invites residents and visitors to a family-friendly community engagement event on Saturday, May 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., hosted on the I4โ€‘C2 parcel at, 65 Rogers Street. The event is part of the Harbortown Cultural Districtโ€™s From the Deep celebration and will offer hands-on activities, live performances, and opportunities for the public to help shape the future of the I4โ€‘C2 site.

The gathering will give attendees a chance to learn about the siteโ€™s history, the regulations that guide its potential uses, and the role that future partnerships could play in delivering community benefits. It will offer interactive stations where attendees can share ideas and feedback about the siteโ€™s future. Staff from the City of Gloucester and MassDevelopment will be available throughout the event to answer questions.

In addition to informational activities, the event will feature sea shanties performed by Three Sheets to the Wind, lobster trap demonstrations with lobstermen from the I4-C2 marina, and kidsโ€™ crafts hosted by the Schooner Adventure.

If inclement weather occurs, the event will be relocated to the Sawyer Free Libraryโ€™s Community Room on the ground floor.

This event is part of a broader visioning process that the City, with support from MassDevelopment, is undertaking to inform decision making about next steps for the I4-C2 site. In addition to this event, the City is offering a variety of ways for members of the public to share input and receive project updates. Details on all available opportunities to get involved are posted on the project webpage at https://www.gloucester-ma.gov/1586/I4-C2-Site-Visioning

Schooner Thomas E. Lannon Almost Ready To Sail

I am so happy to see the Schooner Thomas E. Lannon unwrapped and polished up for the 2026 season! I note they are offering Mother’s Day special sails so there’s a great idea! Tickets and info here: https://schooner.org/public-sails/ . See you dockside on Rogers Street soon!

I trust this stat more than anything I see or read on the news.

Forget traffic counts, dinner reservations, or how many out-of-state plates are still on 41. One of the funniest ways to measure season in Naples is sitting under a heat lamp at Costco.

Costco is reportedly moving around 500 rotisserie chickens per day right now, down from roughly 750 per day during peak season. Not exactly an official census, but hey, it tracks!โ€

Dinner at Yella

What a treat to return to Yella on the Water along the boulevard! Welcome back to the excellent staff and fine menu! Jim tried one of the specials Ouzi and I had the fried haddock tacos. Outstanding on both counts. I especially enjoyed the fish batter with a bit of a zing. To round out the relaxing experience, we ordered strawberry shortcakeโ€ฆ.easily enough for 2 as you will note. The sangria was extra yummy. Shoutout out to Anna who was our server. The place was hopping even early in the season before deck dining is really comfortable so plan accordingly. Welcome back Yella!

How the Mass.-filmed โ€˜Widowโ€™s Bayโ€™ tapped into local history and horror lore

Creator Katie Dippold, star Matthew Rhys, and the cast open up about the New England origins of their new Apple TV show

Listen to the video where they give love to Cape Ann

By Matt Juul Globe Staff,Updated April 27, 2026, 5:30 a.m.

โ€œ

Tall tales about ghosts, ghouls, and things that go bump in the night have long been woven into the fabric of local lore, and โ€œWidowโ€™s Bayโ€ is tapping into that history to tell a distinctly New England story.

Premiering Wednesday on Apple TV, the new comedy horror series stars Emmy winner Matthew Rhys (โ€œThe Americansโ€), also an executive producer on the show, as Tom Loftis, a Bay State native and mayor of the sleepy, fictional island of Widowโ€™s Bay. Despite its idyllic appearance, the town is harboring a laundry list of supernatural secrets. Loftis wants to turn this Wi-Fi-less relic of the past into a modern vacation getaway like Bar Harbor or Marthaโ€™s Vineyard, but his constituents, who are mainly lifelong locals, arenโ€™t exactly on board with the plan, especially since the mayor (at least initially) doesnโ€™t buy into their otherworldly superstitions.

FEATURED VIDEO

Rhys credits โ€œWidowโ€™s Bayโ€ creator, showrunner, and executive producer Katie Dippold for the โ€œshrewd moveโ€ of setting the series in New England, noting how the region comes with so much history and folklore.โ€
