Joey,
Thank you for all the support that GMG gave the team this year. The parents
and girls loved opening up GMG and seeing their pictures.
To wrap up our season, I thought that I would share the Captains speeches
that they gave at our celebration party. They said it the BEST!
These speeches represent the type of athletes we have in Gloucester, the
team spirit , and culture that was created amongst the girls this year.
It was truly amazing to watch them practice and improve each day.
The dedication and commitment was solid. The coaches are proud of the girls
and thrilled to have been a part of such an accomplishment.

Team. Team means a group of people linked in a common purpose. We are group
of individuals that support each other. We all share a love for field
hockey. That is what links us. Throughout the season, we have learned to
play as friends and to play as one. There is no "I" in team. We support each
other. I am very fortunate to be on this field hockey team. It has been an
honor to serve as Captain on the 2012 O’Malley UNDEFEATED Field Hockey team.
I am so proud of what a great team we are. We have stayed strong on the
field and we never backed down. We have remained together throughout the
season. We kicked butt!!!! We stayed undefeated because we played with our
heads in the game and turned it on! I am so proud! Love you guys!!!!!

I am so happy that I got to share my last year of O’Maley field hockey with
this team. I have created new friendships and have learned many life lessons
with in practices games, bus rides and fun times in the locker rooms! I feel
that once are cleats were on and we were playing field-hockey everyone was
friends; we were one big family. In the end, it didn’t matter who scored or
who had the amazing drive or who stopped the ball. What mattered was that we
all walked off the field as a team and that’s what we did. The bus rides
and locker room experiences who could forget them? "Girl on fire", pizza on
the bus or when that one reff wouldn’t stop calling things on us, we still
took the win. Best of all of celebration in Boston. I am pretty sure that we
will all recall these memories when we are in high school. Guess what were
undefeated!!! 14-0 We couldn’t of done it without our three coaches. Mom,
Marcy Plante, I can here you from a mile away… I can here you scream goal
post, then shout in excitement when you hear the boom of the ball slamming
the net. Allison Monell, I always love running off the field, you are always
there to welcome us. Ellen Prescott, you made our defense so strong and your
energy helped us do our best on the field. I am so proud of my team. I’m
proud of all of you girls. I got to have the experience of a life time! We
couldn’t of done it without Jenna and Brie, our crazy defense who would stop
anyone that tried to past and our offence who were GOAL crazy, scoring over
53 goals! Let’s give it up to a team that worked our hardest and earned what
we deserved, a team that never gave up, a team that never went easy, a team
I call my family.

Girls, what an amazing season. Being an undefeated team was a high goal that
not all teams could have accomplished but this team did. WE have all grown
and learned how to work together not just on the field but as a family.
Everyone put in an amount of effort that was unbelievable and stepped up
when they needed too. Everyone on this team always had the best attitude, no
matter what and was always ready to play . Being a part of this field hockey
team gave me a new family and that is why I will never forget this season.

Hi Joey, Frankie and Ryan,
As the weather starts to get chilly, here at Next Step we all start thinking about one thing: bikini & speedo dodgeball.
Thought you guys and the 2012 tournament participants might like a reminder of how their hard work raising funds at the tourney had an amazing impact on teens with cancer. The video below is from our summer youth conference for teen cancer survivors. These youth spent four days together learning how to manage their disease, laughing, riding a zip line and sharing their stories. The music in the video is an original song written by the youth and recorded at the conference.
Way to go dodge-ballers, you changed a lot of lives this year.
Thanks again from all of us at Next Step,

Cape Ann Youth Hockey Invites Kids Age 4-9 to Talbot Rink in Gloucester to participate in Try Hockey for Free Day on November 3rd.
Cape Ann Youth Hockey invites boys and girls ages 4 to 9 years old to Talbot Rink on Saturday, November 3rd at 8am for a Try Hockey for Free clinic to experience ice hockey for the first time and learn the basics of the sport in a fun, safe environment.
Try Hockey For Free Day is part of Come Play Hockey Month. This program, designed to provide youth hockey associations a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport, is a joint‐effort between USA Hockey, the National Hockey League, and NHL member clubs. With Total Hockey and Liberty Mutual Responsible Sports, the official sponsors of Try Hockey For Free Day, USA Hockey has 500 locations offering kids between the ages of 4 and 9 years old this unique opportunity.
CAYH looks forward to introducing new families to our sport! Every participant will receive a special gift from CAYH and a hockey jersey from USA Hockey.
Families are finding it tough to find the extra funds to allow the kids to try hockey. Pure Hockey is going to help make the day exciting for the kids and take some of the financial pressure off the parents by offering pre-registered participants a goodie bag containing a tee shirt, lanyard, sticker, bracelet and a coupon for a 50% discount off their youth starter package (while supplies last). The package contains a helmet with mask, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, shin guards, pants, stick and bag. They also throw in a free pair of skates!
Advance on-line registration is required and space is limited.

Hey Joey,

Nick Bollettieri, the legendary tennis coach linked to 10 number-one world-ranked players including Andre Agassi and Maria Sharapova, visited with hundreds of players during his annual visit to Manchester Athletic Club. The energetic octogenarian is one of the sport’s most well-respected and influential tennis experts. His visit marks the 10-year anniversary of collaboration between Bollettieri and Manchester Athletic Club’s MAC Tennis Academy, home to many top juniors on their own tracks to winning national and international tennis acclaim.
Bollettieri gave private lessons, group drills and motivational speeches to adult players, parents and the Academy’s junior players, including Meghan Kelley, of Falmouth, ME, who recently earned a Gold Ball after winning a national tournament in Girls 16s doubles at the USTA National Clay Court Championships. Jerry Lopez of Mexico, who along with Kelley trains with the Academy and is part of the Academy’s Travel Team, just came back from the Dominican Republic with an International Tennis Federation (ITF) singles championship. Kelley, Lopez and hundreds of other players from cities and towns all over New England were energized by the opportunity to spend time on the court with their high profile mentor.
“Nick is a prime example of the virtues and rewards of discipline, commitment and hard work,” said Todd Carpenter, Director of Tennis at Manchester Athletic Club. “He has spoken all over the world about how to become and stay number one. Invaluable lessons for our program and for the next generation of tennis players.”
Bollettieri’s visit comes on the eve of the release of his biography, It Ain’t Easy, which will be published around Thanksgiving. The book, written by David Legge, is the uncensored, unabridged, authorized story of his life, including what he has taught and what he has learned both on and off the court.
