Fiesta Saturday at Cape Ann Brewing

Joe’s Blackened Chicken Pasta

Cousin Larry shot into town for the week for the Fiesta. He’s a regular reader of the blog and if you read the comments you’ll note how much he misses all those great dishes that you can only get around here.  The pictures I put up drive him nuts.

When Larry lived in Gloucester, back in the day we would make regular trips up to Joe’s American Bar and Grill for the same dish- The Blackened Chicken Pasta. Vaughn, Brian, the Palazolla boys, Moo Moo, Larry and I went to Joe’s the other night in honor of Cousin Larry being back in town.

Joe’s didn’t disapoint. That same garlicky goodness and the killer bread with the butter all washed down with a couple nice Sam Summer Ales. It was great.

Joe’s American Bar & Grill

What’s better than getting that nice warm bread before your meal at Joe’s American Bar and Grill?

Getting it and breaking it with friends and family, that’s what!

They ought to set up a little corner by the entranceway to Joe’s in the Northshore Mall where you could get that bread to go.  I swear I’d pay $10 a loaf.

How to F^@K Up a Lobster Roll -For The New Readers

This morning I was checking the web for pictures of other people’s lobster rolls to stack up against Mrs Captjoes’

What I found was shocking and disturbing. It seems these mooks up in Maine have found a way to fuck up ruin a perfectly good lobster roll. Listen to me, under no circumstances should the words lettuce, paprika, French baguette, or celery enter the equation when speaking about lobster roll preparation.

I ran across a blog from a nice fellow from Ohio, Curt who runs a great blog about grilling and bread- Bucky’s BBQ and Bread. He details on his blog his exploits in Maine trying to find the perfect lobster roll and comes up with four entries all of which have critical flaws in what they call a lobster roll.

Here is one of Bucky’s pictures-copyright 2008 Curt McAdams

Henry VIII Lobster Roll

Can you spot the how wrong this is????? Lettuce???? French Baguette??? What kind of pansy ass bullshit are those Mainer’s trying to pull off on their poor unsuspecting tourists that don’t know any better?

Thank you Curt for providing that photo as an example of what not to do to bastardize such a wonderful Northeast tradition as a lobster roll.

Take notes Son

The Mrs Makes Garlic Scape Pesto

Who ever heard of Garlic Scape? Not me until the Mrs came home from the farm with a bunch to make garlic scape pesto.

Apparently they cut the to stems off the garlic which is called garlic scape in June so the garlic will continue to grow. She’s going to get some French bread and cut it and toast it so we can spread the garlic scape pesto on it.

The Mrs’ Strawberry Shortcake

I don’t know what’s gotten into the Mrs, but she’s been on a cooking frenzy.

I had a particularly tough day at work yesterday cleaning out the lobster tanks and working on setting up some new ones and I came home to a killer dinner and special dessert.

Home made biscuits and strawberry shortcake. Made with strawberries from the coop share we have at Appelton Farms.

Locals Food Tip- Sebastian’s Pizza Slices To Go

Great Eating Tip-  If you’re starving in the afternoon, Sebastion’s pizza on Washington Street near the Mother of Grace Club has a wide variety of slices of pizza to go.  Pull in, grab a couple slices, and be on your way!
