Are you one of those people like me that have walked past the portholes at the American Ship Model Gallery at 20 Pleasant St and wondered what it was like in there?
Well wonder no more my friends because once again your good pal Joey gets inside to bring you behind the scenes and informs you what the heck is going on like no one else.

Inside the dory the knees are placed as a frame. It is interesting to note as Geno told me in the first part of our video interview that the knees are made from the tree trunk. The tree trunk has a natural bend when it enters the earth which lends strength to where the curve is going to be on the inside of the boat.

Here’s Geno working away in the Dory shop. I wonder if he considers it work when you do something you obviously love. I’ll have to ask him next time I see him.
Look for the first part of our interview today at 2:00PM

I stopped by Geno’s Dory Shop at The Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center yesterday. Geno is currently working on a 17 foot hand line dory which will be auctioned off to benefit the Gloucester International Dory Race Organization. The money raised through the raffle will be used to build more dorys. Last year there were four dories and by the end of this year there will be eight. The sport is just taking off thanks to the likes of Jimmy Tarantino, Glen Harrington, Katherine Richmond, Skip Levielle, and Kirk Dombrowski along with many other volunteers..
Look for my three part video series with Geno starting tomorrow which talks about the origins of dory racing, different types of dorys and how they are built and other surprises.

Some people have book shelves and they feel the need to fill them up with stuff.
Sometimes they fill them up with stuff out of necessity because that is the only place to put their stuff. Some people fill them up with stuff that is important to them and has meaning in their lives. Sometimes they fill their shelves with art or some combination of all the above.
We’ve lived in our house for six years now and our book shelves are just starting to get filled with items that have meaning to us.
Among those things are a few books. One of these books is one that I picked up at Dogtown Book Store. It is a used Edward Hopper book with pictures of his work. I’m a fan of Hopper and wish I could have gone to the show at The MFA a couple of summers ago but it was during the busy work season and the Mrs wasn’t too keen on going in at night.
Another is a book- Fiesta Throughout The Years . I know that some people aren’t Fiesta Fans but I’m a HUGE FAN OF FIESTA. For any of the rest of you that love the tradition of Fiesta, you can go down to Dogtown Bookstore or The Bookstore of Gloucester and pick up a copy to keep on your book shelf.
Do you have lots of books on your book shelves or just a few?
Which ones do you feel are special and make the cut to stay on the bookshelf instead of relegated to a drawer, the trash or banished up to the attic?
At City Of Palms Park this Fenway Park replica made of legos is on display. It’s pretty damn cool.
They have Lego “master builders” who build these types of things for a living. Imagine that.

When I was out shooting St. Patrick’s Day window displays Tuesday, I stopped in at Art Haven to see the kids and their projects. Some were working on the windows out front, but my friend Andy was creating art from an old guitar. He had some cool stencils and spray paint that he used to create incredible designs.
I went back today to check out Andy’s progress. He wasn’t there, but the guitar was against the wall drying.
He said it wouldn’t be a working guitar, but it sure is a work of art!
Nice work, Andy!

This looks like a scene right out of the Alfred Hitchcock movie. I can’t help it, but I was scared just sitting in my car watching this yesterday. Doesn’t take much though!
