CUCCIADATTA COOKIES ~ Christmas Fig Cookies Sicilain Style
CUCCIADATTA COOKIES
It simply would not be Christmas in a Sicilian home without Cucciadatta Cookies on the table. Each year on December 19 the ladies in our family reconvene in my kitchen to prepare Pinulata and Cucciadatta Cookies, two very special traditional holiday desserts that have been made for generation in the Sicilian culture. The event of making these desserts is celebrated as if it were a holiday of its own for the women in my family. It is a night we all look forward to, we bake, compete, joke, laugh, and reminisce about years past. A family gathering that sweetens our soles.

Sista Felicia’s Favorite Holiday Baking Must Have!

Today I’m spending a few hours catching up on Holiday Baking using Reynolds Cookie Non-Stick Parchment Paper Baking Sheets, an item I picked up at Walmart back in early October for my annual Family & Friends Holiday Baking Day, that was cancelled due to our daughter Amanda’s recent ear issues. I instantly fell in love with these super handy pre-cut non-stick baking sheets. They are the greatest invention for at home baking! I Love not having to fold under or cut excess paper from the traditional parchment paper roll most commonly sold at the grocery store. For years I’ve wished for pre-cut parchment sheets to fit my bake-wear especially during the busy holiday seasons. When I spotted this item at Walmart, I bought all 10 boxes on the shelf without even doing a price comparison for its quantity compared to the roll, because sometimes your time and frustration is worth the extra money! In the end they were a little more expensive but I prefer parchment paper over Silpat baking mat, and feel this product is well worth every penny! Their simply fantastic!

Pics-Crazy Women Take Over Sista Felicia’s For The Boxwood Tree Party
Sunday afternoon, my friends and family joined me for my 5th annual personal Christmas Party. My childhood friend Katrina Lafata Haskell’s husband Jim kick off of our evening with a special wine tasting, which included a bottle of homemade wine produced here in Gloucester, by Friends Neil & Bridgett Mathews, and their Family. Every year we looks forward to learning something new from Jim about his line of wines. This year wine was served in hand painted wine glasses adorned rhinestone “PEACE” symbols made by my mom. The hand painted glasses have become an annual tradition my mom and guests equally enjoy! Mom loves to create them, and our guests enjoy taking them home at the end of the night. I want to thank my husband St. Barry and my mother Pat for insisting I keep tradition and host the party this year, when they heard talks about me not hosting it this year, shortly after my daughter recent surgery. They knew I need a night of fun, and knew this night would raise my spirits….and that it did! Thank you ladies and Merry Christmas!

The Joys of Artificial “Pre-Lit” Christmas Trees!
St. Barry checking all 900 lights to find the problem
A few years ago we had this very same problem, but only in one section of the Pre-Lit tree. After buying and using 2 different “Bulb tester” devices, that both didn’t work, after wasting several hours trying to find the “bad fuses and bulbs, we promptly return the failed “Bulb Testers and purchased a few sets of string lights, to fix the unlit section of the tree. This year St. Barry and BJ checked the fuses assembled the tree, and plugged it in to find more then half the tree lights OUT. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh….NOT AGAIN!!!!!!! and so the Pre-Lit Christmas Tree frustration set in! Out the door I went to purchase 12 boxes of lights. So much for “Pre-Lit”. Someone in town with an electrical background could make big bucks during the holidays season, making house visits trouble shooting Pre-Lit Trees, Garlands, and Holiday Decorations. We will joyfully be your first customer next year!
Last night my mother Pat, AKA “Best Mother In The World” stayed late into the evening knowing my decorating partner, daughter Amanda, wouldn’t be assisting in decking out our home this year. Decorating our family room tree is not and easy task, and usually takes 2 days to complete with help. Mom and I banged up the ornaments, flowers, crystals and sheer organza swags in a few hours. We were thrilled to be making great progress in a short amount of time, until we turned around and noticed something terrible had gone wrong with the Christmas Tree in our foyer…
My first thought was “Really St. Nick…Really?” Lets just say this moment really completed the day I was having. The wise women I’m blessed to call MOM, said “Felicia you have to laugh,” and that we did. We laughed a lot while St. Barry strung lights onto that tree. My girlfriends and I often bring humor to bad situations with this fraise…”Seriously can’t make this “stuff” (SH_T) up!”
Mom and I found an old Peace Symbol Christmas Tree Topper as we unpacked the foyer tree decorations last night. It once topped my daughter’s pink Christmas Tree she had in her room when she was a little girl. I haven’t seen or used in several years. I think St. Nicholas placed in in that box, as sign, knowing, how concerned we are for the ear problems our daughter is having. This year more then ever I pray for Peace. Peace in the world, and Peace of mind.
All I want for Christmas this year is peace of mine that my Family & Friends will be Healthy and Happy in the New Year!
