First Ipswich Bank Becomes Brookline Bank

Over this Presidents Day weekend, First Ipswich Bank changed over to Brookline Bank. I expect customers were prepared but the new signage in the Walgreens plaza on Rogers Street caught my eye.

Oliver’s Harbor Now Open!

We had the pleasure of visiting Oliver’s Harbor for our Valentine’s Day dinner. So happy to see them back in the game! We did not experience normal new-opening difficulties. My steak was awesome and GMG Jimmy had sushi he enjoyed. Great evening. Thank you Hannah and Scott. We are looking forward to a return visit.

Blast from the Recent Past

I’ve been going through older photo albums (yes, I have such things) looking for something and I ran across some pictures of our trips to Gloucester in 2003 and 2004. The sharp-eyed among you will notice a few differences just in the past 16-17 years in these iconic scenes. I hope you enjoy this little trip down recent memory lane!

Nichols Candies for Your Sweetheart

For the sake of the blog, we feel it’s important to share the wealth where chocolate is concerned for Valentines Day! Nichols Candies is ready for Valentines Day and is waiting for you!

Yummy Lunch at Willow Rest

We had not been to Willow Rest in a while so we stopped for lunch. What a treat! I had the Causeway chicken sandwich and Jim had the Cuban….piled high and steamy with goodness! Always a nice treat plus we get to see friends! Shout out to Chris, our favorite plumber.

Audrey’s Flower Shop is a Bright Spot on Railroad Ave.

It’s at this time of year when I crave pretty bright colors and Audrey’s Flower Shop fills the Bill! Despite being a bit trapped by street construction just outside their door, Audrey’s staff is ready for any upcoming holidays you might need flowers for.

Exercises at Eastern Point

It appears the Coast Guard and perhaps others were doing some training off Eastern Point yesterday afternoon. Thanks all for how you stay in shape to assist as needed!

Kites Over New England

Eric and Jim were flying their kites at Salisbury State Reservation on a perfect morning this week. These big ones are trilobites, which seems perfect. You couldn’t help but smile!

Lunch at Cape Ann Coffee

When we went to Cape Ann Coffee to pick up our quiches for the Super Bowl (apparently NOT appropriate football fare but I do not care), we decided to have a sandwich. I got the turkey Reuben and Jim got an egg sandwich. Perfectly hit the spot. Thank you Cape Ann Coffee!

No Shadow = Early Spring!

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this morning, therefore predicting an early spring. This is a rare call on his part, having happened only 20 times in the history of Groundhog Day predictions, and never twice in a row! Here’s a link to some interesting historial tidbits in case you have nothing to read with your Sunday morning coffee.

Licensing Granted May 1915

While we are waiting for some area “victuallers” (persons providing or selling food) to be granted their licenses and approvals, perhaps you will see familiar names on this list from the Gloucester Daily Times May 14 1915. My great grandfather appears here.

Ummmm……thoughts?……

New Era has apparently released a new set of “Team Describe” hats for Major League Baseball. Here’s the Red Sox design. Paul Revere (not George Washington) and a lobster roll…… what do you think?

Here’s a link for the other teams and additional info https://chowderandchampions.com/2020/01/30/Boston-red-Sox-new-era-somehow-ruined-teams-hat/
