My View of Life on the Dock
All pretty and lined up in a row. Sure doesn’t feel like the first day of spring. These boats look ready to go.

Congratulations to the David G. Ouellet Division of the US Navy Sea Cadet Corps for an outstanding annual inspection.
As many of you may know, I am beyond proud that my older son, Thatcher, is a first year League Cadet in the Gloucester Division of the US Navy Sea Cadets. So, I was beyond pleased to be in attendance to observe Regional Director, LCDR Landry as he inspected the division yesterday morning at the Gloucester Coast Guard Station.
He had many complementary things to say about the division and their growth, development, camaraderie, and more. He also noted that they have grown from the smallest in numbers to the 3rd largest division in the region.
They really are a very impressive group…due to their incredible leadership.
Lead Petty Officer, Ryan Litch, received an award from the VFW. In fact, this award was the first of its kind awarded to any member of the Ouellet Division. The award was presented to him by Commander Brian O’Connor, Senior Vice CMDR John Ellis, and Junior Vice CMDR Bill Ellis. LPO Litch was also presented with the Cadet of the Year award by Gen Guimond from the Massachusetts Council of the Navy League. My son, as one of the youngest of the Navy League Cadets, looks up to Lead Petty Officer Litch more than he may ever know.
My family, and many others, are incredibly thankful to the US Navy Sea Cadets in general, most particularly the David G. Ouellet Division and its leaders, instructors, and volunteers for all that they do, embody, and share with the cadets in their care.

I had to do some business at the City Hall Annex this week. How could anyone walk by this without snapping a photo of it? Pretty.

I was fortunate to be able to attend the Next Generation Cape Ann’s Young Professionals Event at Pier 23 last night. Much thanks to the Markos family for opening Pier 23’s doors (on Nick’s birthday nonetheless) to this crowd of young and passionate Cape Ann enthusiasts. It was a wonderful opportunity to network and meet likeminded young professionals who were eager to share their ideas, careers, passions, and goals for Cape Ann. I was happy to be there as both a contributor to Good Morning Gloucester and the Direction of Communication for Harborlight Montessori. I enjoyed a night out with friends and definitely met some contacts whom I look forward to contacting in the near future.
I look forward to Next Generation Cape Ann’s next gathering and will surely keep you all in the loop.
Wicked Tuna, Season 7 is set to premier on Sunday, March 11th….two boys in my house are pretty excited.

I love the things you encounter on drives around the Cape. I hope to see her out on the water soon as well.

The warm days of late winter awaken the flow of sap in the maples, causing buds to swell and resulting in sweet-smelling, billowing clouds of steam rising from the sugarhouse. No matter your age, we offer many ways to take advantage of the age-old tradition of maple sugaring here at Ipswich River!
On our naturalist-guided tours, learn how to identify a sugar maple, observe tapping and sap collection methods, watch the sap being boiled down in the sugarhouse, and get a sweet taste of the final product.
Afterwards, warm up by the woodstove in the Barn, where hot dogs cooked in maple sap (aka sap dogs) and delicious soups and desserts made by our volunteers are available for purchase. Visit our gift shop to browse a selection of maple products, and be sure to bring home a bottle of our own freshly made maple syrup.
Tours last about an hour and run in all weather. Advanced registration is required.
Free Event on Saturday, March 3rd 9:00-12:30

This was an unexpected sight on the highway the other day. Pretty cool and some fine craftsmanship for sure.

We’ve hit a few different Bass Pro Shops in our travels. It never gets old. My boys could spend hours walking the aisles. A couple of weeks ago when we spent the night at Gillette Stadium to send the Patriots off to the Super Bowl, we spent some time in the Foxboro BPS. It was hard to get the boys out.

Thanks to a colleague I tried a new place for lunch last week…Tartine Kitchen & Eatery at 192 Cabot Street in Beverly.
The menu consists of unique light breakfast choices, salads, quiches, soups, sides, desserts…and even wine and Belgian beers.
My problem was that I wanted to try about seven different things, but I went with the avocado toast….and it was delicious. I think next time I’ll go with the Nut Butter toast and then maybe brie, pear, and honey or the fig and goat cheese tartines.
