“Schooner, Wooden Boat and Shipbuilding Events” Calendar Has just been added to the Cape Ann Calendar

We’d like to thank Mary Kay Taylor of the Schooner Ardelle, who has agreed to manage a calendar for Schooner, Wooden Boat and Shipbuilding Events. She’s got it going and it has now been added to The “Cape Ann Calendar”

Artist Samara Pearlstein Shifts Our Focus on Baseball Card Art on Display at iartcolony

Rockport Gallery, iartcolony has three very unique pieces that were tailored to honor Cape Ann specifically.

Owner/Artist, Jill Armstrong says,

“I believe there is an audience who would love to know these were created – and would love to see them – and at only $675 – maybe take one home.  One of our clients from Gloucester represented in Swampscott artist Samara Pearlstein’s art, played against Jeff Juden in highschool – got a hit off of him, during a two-hitter game.  Not that long ago.  And, I love the Stuffy McInnis Card – there must be an audience for them.”

Artist statement:

When considering Motif #1, it is impossible to not think about what it means to represent place.  Motif itself has been represented over and over again, but it’s as much about an iconic image of the North Shore and its associations as it is about the building itself.

The baseball cards represented here all belong to Major League Baseball players who were born on the North Shore.  With the figure removed from the baseball card, what is left are the aesthetic signifiers of a specific era, baseball’s relationship to design in that era, and a focus on place over person— a reversal of the usual role of a baseball card.

Each card also prominently features red as a design element, a selecting factor that serves as an additional nod to Motif, arguably the most famous use of red on the North Shore and in landscape painting.

PROLIFIC ARTIST AND MUCH LOVED TEACHER PAUL CIARAMITARO offers classes in Perspective Drawing at the NORTH SHORE ARTS ASSOCIATION.

The studio drawing classes will run for five Mondays, June 15th through July 13th and begin again on five Mondays, July 20 through August 17. All classes are 10 AM – 1 PM.

2014_Ciaramitaro_Perspective_DrawingThis much loved Gloucester artist and former fisherman shares about perspective drawing, “To be an artist in a traditional or classical style, you must understand perspective. If you don’t understand perspective you will not fool anyone. Your paintings and drawings will be weak. You must understand the lines. I will show you where the lines begin and end. When you know perspective, you will be a more confident artist able to draw anything. You will see…I will show you. Join me.” Please check the NSAA’s website for more information.

The NORTH SHORE ARTS ASSOCIATION INTRODUCES ITS “New Artist Members of 2015” EXHIBITION

IN HONOR OF ITS 2015 SEASON’S “Year of  The Artist!” THEME, The NORTH SHORE ARTS ASSOCIATION INTRODUCES ITS “New Artist Members of 2015” EXHIBITION in The Gordon Grant Room, Thursday, June 4 – Saturday, June 27.   Combined Opening Reception with Juried Members Exhibit, Sunday, June 7th,  2 – 4 pm.  ALL ARE INVITED.  OPEN AND FREE TO THE PUBLIC.   (Note: For additional information on all sixteen new artists please see the NSAA’s Blog)

Come celebrate with us the fresh, exciting work of our sixteen new member painters, sculptors, and graphic artists among whom are:

Boston based watercolorist, Gary Tucker, who shares that he “feels the ‘art spirit’ when he is struggling, creating.”  Sensing a commonality with Turner, he finds “power through brushwork, and subtlety through transparency,”

Painter Katalin Spang of Burlington, MA, who works in oil and pastel, says “Painting for me is a spiritual experience.  It is a careful distillation of my interpretation, in a visual language, of the beauty I find around me,”

Mike Foley, a Gloucester stone sculptor, releases the beauty from local and internationally sourced granite who offers, “I find beauty in the gifts of the earth, as well as in the wisdom of mathematics.  My sculptures, in their small way, attempt to transform the fusion of these beauties into expressive forms, frozen in time, but warmed by each human hand which reaches out to touch them,”

Artist Cynthia Dunaway who moved to Cape Ann in 1986 to pursue her interest in painting and has, since then, been deeply committed to the development of her artistic expression through the use of charcoal and pencil in life drawing, and as a ‘plein air’ painter, and

Portraitist Dana Levin, also a still life and landscape artist, trained in the painting and drawing techniques of the Old Masters.  Her intense study of realism in oil painting has taken her to museums and art institutes throughout Europe, Russia and the USA.

All of our new members have trained and studied with master artists and at major art institutions in New England and around the world.  The NSAA invites you to share our excitement in welcoming these superb artists as our New Members of 2015!

The North Shore Arts Association’s galleries are open, free to the public, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Noon to 5 p.m.

seARTS celebrates 8th Annual Art Loan @Bass Rocks Show at Opening Reception May 28, 2015

The Society for the Encouragement of the Arts (seARTS) proudly announces its eighth year in partnership with the Bass Rocks Golf Club for the Annual seARTS Art Loan Program. This year’s show presents works by 19 regional artists at its opening reception on May 28th. The opening provides a chance for seARTS members along with the general public to view the works and meet the artists in this wonderful and picturesque setting.

The program is a year-round exhibition, showing and selling the work, and since its inception artists have sold nearly $15,000 worth of artwork through the program, netting more than $10,000 to the artists in the show. The fresh and bold work of the 2015 show balances a body of returning artists with new, introducing the space to completely new genres of work.
