THURSDAY SEPT. 17

From Dave Sag – Thursday Night Blues Party @ the Rhumb Line

This Thursday at the Rumline we  have Mr’ Steve Sadler, he of the searing guitar and monotone joke delivery. Steve’s an old pal of ours from the old days and we’re always glad to see him. You may remember the Barking Sharks, Steve’s last band around these parts before  he took off to see the world. And now he’s back!
Backing him up will be Mr. Greg Dann, drumnist for Secret Cervix and all around nice guy, and, of course, Greg T. and myself. An enjoyable nite!

And don’t forget: all you under-employed folks with time to spare, c’mon  down to the Rose Baker Senior Center next Monday for some swingin’ jazz and dixieland courtesy of the ol’ Salty Jazz Band. I’ll be there. Blast off is at 1 Pm

Where Zat? Winner!

DSC_5570 [640x480]Pam is this week’s winner by identifying the location as Westie’s Pond in Magnolia. We all skated and fished on this pond on Lake Rd.

Anyone have any great memories about Westie’s?

Congrats, Pam! Come to the Block Party Saturday night and get your t-shirt!

Glosta- Phobic Translation

Ok- This is what the t-shirt means. It doesn’t mean that you’re afraid of Gloucester. It is a play on the word  Claustrophobia (from Latin claustrum “a shut in place”) – the fear of having no escape, and being closed in.

So Glosta-phobia is that feeling you get when you have been on the island so long it feels like you’re being closed in, and you need to go over the Bridge for a little trip up the line or up the coast.

It’s not meant to be a slam against Gloucester. It’s just a fun way, for those of us who’ve been here for years, of saying “I’m bouncing off the walls of Gloucester, and I’ll be right back after a little R&R over the Bridge.”

Hope that clears up the ambiguity. 🙂

Where Zat? Video

Despite Joey’s keen observation regarding my video skills, I humbly submit this week’s Where Zat? Have fun, and I hope no one get motion sickness!

Drop off unused medications today at Rose Baker Senior Center lot

meds

The Healthy Gloucester Collaborative’s Medications Disposal Program will hold a Community Drop Off Event to safely dispose of unwanted and unused medications today from 10 a.m. to noon at the Rose Baker Senior Center parking lot on Rogers Street in Gloucester.

As you may know, keeping unused medications on hand is a public health risk, especially if they’re found by children and young people.  Flushing medications down the toilet is bad for both public health and the environment.

Please check your own medicine cabinet for old medications, both prescription and over-the-counter items.  Vitamins, veterinary medications, narcotics, pills, and liquids will also be accepted.  This material will be appropriately destroyed by the Gloucester Police Department.  (Other items – such as syringes, needles, thermometers, IV bags, personal care products, empty containers, and the like – will not be accepted.)

Well, summer’s over, but we don’t care. We’re still going strong with our lil shows, and we always will! So, another big week for me. Here we go!

Exit 11 Capt. Carlo’s Friday Night!

————————————————————————————————————————————————-

From Dave Sag-

And Friday:  The Geezers will be limping back into Elliot’s at the Blackburn for yet another grueling experiment in physics.Dave Brown, Dave Mattacks, Greg Tower and myself will be attempting cold fusion of the blues. With any luck, by the end of the night there will be nothing left on stage but a steaming heap. Come find out!

And Sunday, I’ll be up at Glenn’s Cool Bar and Restaurant in Nbpt. From 6 to 9 p.m. playing with this groovy band consisting of my buddies Justin Quinn, on vocals and harp, and his entire aggravation including Jon Ross on gooeytar, Per Hanson, the scariest drummer I’ve ever played with, and Curtis “Lemay” Haines, the Mayor of Nbpt. and a fine stride pianist. Make reservations now! The food is great and the band ain’t too shabby!
Don’t be a cube, Rube; go ape! Live music is best!

More than 20 local musicians and spoken-word performers look forward to seeing you tonight for Banding Together, the benefit concert for Cape Ann Social Club, at the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church, 10 Church Street, Gloucester.  Admission is $10.

Things I learned this summer-

1. Just because it’s less money doesn’t mean it’s a good deal i.e. the mess with Comcast. We went back to Verizon today. Yippee!

2. You can lower your cholesterol and blood pressure with fish oil, flax seed oil, and a little help from prescriptions. My cholesterol went from 256 to 146 and my BP went down 40 points.

3. Cycling ( I made it around the island yesterday), kayaking (Kylie and her dad’s first time out), and the beach are great ways to spend summer in Gloucester especially when you have grandkids who like to do the same things. Cooking baby beets from the Farmer’s Market when we only had bottled water to wash the “red” out was a tasty treat!

4. You don’t have to spend a cent to have fun here.

5. Summers in Gloucester are way too short.

6. I love Gloucester despite the fact that fall is coming.

7. I love Joey in spite of the fact that he pushes me almost to my limit.

8. I love Joey because of this.

9. I learned that I am a lousy videographer.

10. I learned that I keep meeting the “funnest” people right here in G-Town!!

Big hugs and kisses to all of you!

Where Zat Word? Another Twist!

Okay, I just thought this one up as I was scrolling through the posts.

Find these words in the posts from September 5 through today. They’re not scrambled. Start with the top post and work your way back to Sept 5. More than one word may show up in the same post. So find the words and give a brief name of the post where you found it.

Hedgie just clarified my backwards directions from earlier today. Sorry for the confusion! 🙂

Good luck and have fun!
