Hammond hosts ‘Castle of the Damned’

Around the Cape- Gloucester Daily Times
Gail McCarthy

New England’s most terrifying Halloween event is back for its 11th year. For two “fear-filled” weekends “Castle of the Damned” will take place at Hammond Castle.

The castle once again serves as the “atmospheric backdrop” for a unique Halloween attraction in New England. Guests take a guided tour through the historic castle and its grounds, and bear witness to nightmarish displays inspired by the works of author H.P. Lovecraft, Italian horror maestro Dario Argento, and Pastimes’ own Dean Calusdian, director of the independent horror film “Tortured Hearts.”

David and Paul Stickney of Pastimes Entertainment designed this year’s castle, which eschews typical haunted house fare for bizarre images to haunt those who brave to enter. “There are no people in sheets jumping out and yelling ‘Boo!’ ” Dean said. “We want people to be afraid to go to sleep for the rest of their lives.”

“Big fun this thursday as we welcome back slumlord and guitar gunslinger Mr. Billy Loosigian, the scourge of N.H. stripmalls. Y’all remember Billy, or is it Buffalo Bilious, the famous juggler of hot blues lix, ancient rock’n’roll samples and general musical magician, courtesy of Willie Alexander’s Ragtime Band. Billy is one of the most sought-after call guys on the Boston circuit, and we got ‘im, and we’re gonna  blow a fuse. Wear rubber gloves. And, oh, by the way, girls, he’s single! and not even remotely gay! And lives out of town! Get in line! I’m sellin’ tickets!
Blacking him up will be our own Frosty The Snowman, Mr. Forrest Padgett, on Drummbulators, the nicest guy I’ve ever known, and of, course, Greg T. on catarrh, and myselph, on base. We’re gonna romp and stomp till midnite. Honk and sneeze till daylite. You come, too.”

Weather puts haunting of wooded camp on hold

From the Gloucester Daily Times

Old Red Eyes” has been spooked by the rain this weekend, but organizers for the benefit “haunted house” on the West Gloucester grounds of YMCA’s Camp Spindrift are sure he’ll be around beginning next Thursday.

Horribles Parade organizers have been planning to host a variation on the “haunted house” theme as a fundraiser for next year’s parade, and the presentation — based on the “Legend of Red Eyes” — was to have kicked off this weekend. But Al Kipp, one of the haunting’s organizers, said the event was postponed until next Thursday because of the grim weather forecast.

“It’s the trick-or-treat season, and I guess we just got tricked by Mother Nature,” Kipp said yesterday.

The “haunting” grounds will now open Thursday at 5 p.m. at the YMCA camp, with the showcase set to run Oct. 22 through 25, and Oct. 29 and 30 from 5 to 10 p.m. The haunted woods will also be open Halloween night from 5 to 9. Plus, each night will feature a special fright time for smaller children from 5 to 6:30, when the program will be geared toward them. Beginning at 7 p.m. each night, the haunting volunteers will “turn it up a notch” for older kids and adults, according to organizers Kipp and Dave Tucker.

Self-torture!

Why, oh why, do I do this to myself?? All I wanted to do was take the humidifier out of the closet and put it in the bedroom. Two hours later it’s still in the closet and to get to the computer, I had to climb over 2 boxes of old photos, a bin full of cassettes, a fan, the vacuum, and various storage thingies from under the bed. Whaaaaa???!! OVERKILL!!! And I get trapped into these huge projects when all I want to do is one little task. I know it’s my evil twin forcing me into subservient behavior. I would NOT do this willingly. Well, back to the mess. Oh, btw, I re-wired my speakers and re-installed the FM antenna on my receiver in the process. Yay!

Local musicians hold concert to benefit Action Inc.

By Gail McCarthy
Gloucester Daily Times Staff Writer

A night of music will take place Saturday at Gloucester Stage Company to benefit Action Inc., the local anti-poverty agency which helps a range of residents from the homeless to the elderly.

Singer-songwriter James White, a native of England who is a long-time resident here, organized the benefit for Action.

There will be a rich assortment of local musicians, he said.

The line-up includes a solo performance by Chris Lyman on aquaphone, and two bands, James White and Friends, which features Hal Hirshon, and Chris Armstrong.

Dr. Thomas Pearce, a local physician also known as “Dr. Tom,” will perform on bass with Armstrong, a local singer-songwriter and artist.

“Action is providing what is a really good service, helping the homeless, feeding people, educating people and taking care of people. If you’re going to have a benefit in this current time, we want to help those who are hit the hardest, and we want to do what we can to help out,” said White.

Lisa Doucett, of Action, said the organization is appreciative to the musicians who wanted to volunteer their time for the concert.

“We’re grateful that they thought of us and made us the recipient,” said Doucett. “We’re happy and we hope people turn out for it. It should be a fun time.”

The concert takes place Saturday at Gloucester Stage, 267 East Main St. at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ the Rhumb Line

From Sag-

Well, we got her: Boston treasure and Octomom of the blues, Ms. Diane Blue. She’ll be bringin’ her own sweet brand of blues and R&B to our stage this week as we continue our march toward perfection series. If you haven’t seen this woman perform, you should push that icepick in a little further, maybe it’ll help. She’s a  montrous talent that should not be fooled with.
Backing up over her  will be guitarist and good buddy Roberto Mortituri, or something like that (Ave, Caesar!) Last time here, I couldn’t stop staring at his shoes( Sorry, Mike), Alligator or catfish skin or something… and also, Roger Brocklebank , on skins, he of Madhouse fame, as well as Greg T. on catarrh, and myself, on base. Don’t miss it, or I’ll kill you, haha, just kidding!

GMG Power Ranking Alternative

Since Joey has started the GMG Power Ranking, the candidates have been on edge. When will we fall from grace? How will we be able to live up to his unrealistic expectations? Will we have to walk the downtown street with GMG tattooed on our foreheads? Will we disgrace our industrious leader?

WAIT! Paul has developed the POOP LIST aka GMGPL. Membership is fun and easy. Piss off Joey and you go to the top of the list! Practical jokes add up points quickly. REVOLT!  TAKE ACTION!

Hmmmm….Which list will have a more interesting cast of characters?

Pssssst….Don’t let Joey read this! YIKES!
