That Dona Lambert and her troupe at Summer Pie Theater Playhouse in Rockport want to be the first to do a production of Tales of Bong Tree Island? But before that can happen, we have to make Tales of Bong Tree Island a reality. Without your help, in 2 days, the owlpusses with their great wisdom and teaching of acceptance and tolerance to young people, could become extinct. Please support them and this project, at whatever amount you can (you can pledge as little as $1.00). http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1997277714/martines-owlpuss-interviews-and-tales-of-bong-tree
About Dona Lambert and Summer Pie Theater:
Dona Lambert has been imaging stories her entire life. On the farm she grew-up on she created magical kingdoms in the woods. Every Summer with her dad she turned a tiny chicken coop building into a little theater and performed plays. Dona has a B.A. in speech and dramatics. She has been a teacher in grades K-8 and recently taught the in-school drama at the Rockport Middle School. She was a program director with the YMCA in Maryland and New Jersey for many years. Dona’s theater and stories with the children has always been a part of whatever other pursuit she was involved in at the time. The Summer Pie Play House is very much a piece of the little chicken coop theater from Dona’s childhood farm once upon a time. It is children in their imagination, building, inventing, relaxed, and happy.
Dona has been conducting children’s theater mainly in Rockport and the surrounding area since 1998. Her Chicken Coupe troupe this season performed ROBIN HOOD And Monty Python………..and the 21 chickens. Dona directed the Art Harbor Camp at Windhover for five years. Dona’s Troupes now rehearse and perform at The Unitarian-Universalist Society in Rockport.
I think Dona’ Summer Pie Theater is the perfect venue for the first stage production of Tales of Bong Tree Island. Thanks for your help in making it a reality, EJ
I thought this was the perfect image to use to invite people for Mug Up – Sunday 9:30 am at Khan Studio & the GMG Gallery, 77 Rocky Neck Ave. Whoever owns this boat tied up in Smiths Cove, you’re invited to Mug Up too. Bill Hubbard of Gloucester is here visiting from Melbourne, FL for the 102nd Dahlmer Family Reunion. Bill’s mother was a Dahlmer, the 3rd of 13 kids, and sister to LA Dahlmer’s father. Bill will be at Mug Up, so come by and say hi.

Travelers along the 85-mile Essex Coastal Scenic Byway will experience the best of coastal New England: historic seaports, colonial era farms, village and city centers, and a wealth of period architecture. Set against a rocky shoreline and The Great Marsh, New England’s largest salt marsh, the byway traverses thirteen historic communities on Boston’s North Shore.

Artist, Paul George has returned to Rocky Neck. He and Kate Morse are now located at 77 Rocky Neck Ave. in the galleries previously occupied by Bernie Gerstner and most recently, Alma McLaughlin. This photo is of Paul sketching a painting of Alma, which I am looking forward to seeing.
Paul George was born in Cambridge and studied at the MFA School in Boston. He is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, and is also an active member of the New England Watercolor Society, Cape Cod AA, North Shore AA and former Vice President of the Rockport Art Association. Paul also won the Winsor & Newton Award for Excellence in Watercolor at the national Watercolor Society. He has won many awards including the Gold Medal from the New England Watercolor Society. His work is in collections throughout the United States and Europe.
Stop by and check out Paul’s and Kate’s work. They are both excellent painters.

In the time I’ve lived here, I would say that most people I’ve met would support tolerance, freedom from discrimination, and the teaching of tolerance and acceptance of others to youth.
Tales of Bong Tree Island is a book about tolerance and acceptance of others, and the freedom to choose who to love without fear of discrimination, as told from the perspective of the owlpusses, the descendants of the owl and the pussycat, a trailblazing interspecies couple from England who Edward Lear made famous in the 1870’s.
If published, Tales of Bong Tree Island has the potential to be a great tool for encouraging tolerance, compassion and acceptance of each other by people of all ages, but especially for the youth – the ones who are the future of our species.
If you support tolerance, compassion and acceptance of others, please support Tales of Bong Tree Island at whatever level you can. There are only 9 days left in the campaign to raise the funds needed to print the initial run of the book and pay Kickstarter and Amazon fees. There are great rewards for backers.

Mark your calendar: Thursday, July 5 at Rocky Neck Art Colony for Nights on the Neck and the closing reception for Horses and Other Abstract Notions, paintings by Judy Wilburn and Miss Lyn Cardinal at Khan Studio at the GMG Gallery. Make a night of it. The first performance – African Drumming with Mamadou – starts at 5:00 at Keith Trefry Memorial Park. My all time favorite, Bird Mancini will be at Imagine from 6:45-7:30. Judy’s and Lyn’s closing reception is from 7:00-9:00 and we have the awesome Tony Gallo Band at Madfish Wharf from 7:45-8:45. Our own Karen Ristuben winds up the night at The Center. The complete schedule follows. Don’t miss it. And don’t forget to stop by The Center at 6 Wonson Street when you arrive to pick up your Scavenger Hunt card. Also, think about having dinner at Madfish Grille or The Rudder, two of the sponsors of this year’s NOTN.

What is this? It came flying into the gallery last night. At first I thought it was a hummingbird, although it moved slow for a hummingbird and fast for a moth. It eventually landed and I was able to capture it and put it back outside. Anyone know what it is?

This nice couple from Colorado, who love Gloucester and Good Morning Gloucester, were part of the crew who sailed the Schooner Westward here to be hauled out at the Marine Railways. She is presently downrigged at the Heritage Center until this week when she will move over to the Railways.
