Oh what a day to kayak and swim on Sunday

Rick and I went kayaking on Sunday in Gloucester Harbor, we visited Joey, Rocky Neck, had lunch on Ten Pound Island, met Bridgette and Neil on Ten Pound Island and then off to Niles Beach to visit Felicia and B.J. It was fantastic.

The Magnolia Library and Community Center’s 40th Annual Art Show will be held on the weekend of July 14th-16th, 2017. The event takes place at 1 Lexington Ave. in the Magnolia section of Gloucester, MA. All proceeds benefit the non-profit Magnolia Library and Community Center and participating artists.

Works from artists throughout the North Shore will be on display and for sale. Unframed bin work will also be available for sale. This event is professionally judged, and visitors to the show vote for a people’s choice award.

This well-attended event starts with a champagne reception (all welcome) on Friday July 14th 7:00-9:00 p.m. The show continues on Saturday & Sunday, July 15 & 16 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This event is open to the public and free to attend. All artwork is for sale.

ARTISTS: Registration is now open. Use Event Brite (https://MagnoliaArtShow2017.eventBrite.com) for faster and easier registration. There is a mail in registration form in the Artist Packet should you be unable to register online, starting May 28th. Mayor Sefatia Romeo Then has launched Gloucester Green to help residents save money and energy, as well as helping to reduce the community’s carbon. There is more in the attached flyer but the bottom line is that the assessments are free and the program is a great way for any homeowner or apartment owner to save money and improve our environment.

2017 Magnolia Tour by Generous Gardeners

At the dawn of the twentieth century, Magnolia was well known as a vacation destination with a casino and grand hotels. Exclusive stores like Tiffany’s and magnificent mansions lined Lexington Avenue and Shore Road. Join us on a walk down memory lane for the Fifth Generous Gardener’s Garden Tour in the quiet seaside village of Magnolia. Stroll along Shore Road viewing over a dozen private gardens, many with glorious ocean views. This tour showcases a variety of cottage gardens, rose gardens, estate gardens and also includes an amazing Olmsted garden. It is predominantly a walking tour (1.6 miles) with a few gardens a short shuttle bus ride from downtown Magnolia.

Tickets are $30 per person. Tickets may be purchased in advance here, or on the day of the tour. On the day of the tour, pick up your ticket/booklet with maps and descriptions at the Magnolia Library, 1 Lexington Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930.

Please no pets. Rain or Shine.

First Event of ‘Music on Meetinghouse Green’ Series to benefit Pathways for Children on Friday Evening, July 7th

The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation presents the first of 9 free, family-friendly outdoor concerts, featuring Berklee Be-Bop Guitars with John Baboian on July 7th 2017 at 6 pm, on Meetinghouse Green, corner of Church and Middle St, Gloucester.

The “Be-Bop” Guitars is an all-faculty band from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. It includes guitars, trumpet/flute, vibes, bass and drums. The band plays both guitar-oriented jazz and music rooted in the “Bop” tradition. They promise a lively and fun evening!

The public is invited to make free-will donations to Pathways for Children, the non-profit organization partnered with this concert (please bring cash or check and be generous). Pathways is a leading provider of education and care programs on the North Shore of Massachusetts serving over 500 children and their families from 13 communities.

Picnicking is encouraged so pack a basket with food and drink. You may also purchase delicious seafood and other goodies on-site from Joe’s on a Roll. Bring folding chairs or blankets. In case of rain, the event will take place inside the Meetinghouse.

The sponsors of ‘Music on Meetinghouse Green’ pre-pay the expenses so all contributions go to our non-profit partners. More fun times with the grandchildren

Maddie, Owen, Cole and Avery have been staying with Papa and Nonnie since Sunday night. We are having such a great time with them. So far, beach, Maritime Gloucester, Lego Land, Mile Marker to swim, Wingaersheek Beach and today the beach with Aunts and Uncles. Lots of fun and so grateful we live where is so much to do.
