Great Blue Heron at Clark Pond

Wish the photo was better but this beautiful bird took off in flight just as I got my camera. The wings are beautiful.

Music on the Meetinghouse Green

Classic Rock from The Bar Chords at third Gloucester Meetinghouse Summer Concert, July 20, 2018

Put on your dancing shoes and prepare for a trip down memory lane presented by The Bar Chords, at the third free Gloucester Meetinghouse Summer Concert, July 20, 6 – 9 pm, at the corner of Church and Middle Street.

Young and old will groove to the beat of classic rock of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s performed by the band’s vocalists and harmonica, acoustic and electric guitar players. Rock to the iconic rhythms of The Beatles, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, The Barenaked Ladies, and so much more. Lead vocalist Frank Reaney, who started the band in 2013 as a way to bring back the great memories of a bygone era, said, “Every song we play is the one you’ve wanted to hear live, yet most bands playing music from this era don’t play, won’t play or can’t play.”

The concert is free. In order to give back to the community, concert-goers are encouraged to make free-will donations to Maritime Gloucester, a non-profit organization seeking to inspire students and visitors to value marine science, maritime heritage, and environmental stewardship through hands-on education and experiences. Bring cash or a checkbook, beach chairs or blankets. Fresh food is provided by Willow Rest, a foodies mecca on the Annisquam/Riverdale side of Cape Ann. In case of rain the concert will be held inside the Meetinghouse. Parking is available on Meetinghouse Green, in lots nearby, and at St. Peter’s Square.

Ice Ice Baby

Ice, Ice, Baby! During the recent 2018 July 4th Heat Wave, ice was being distributed however possible, including a Tesla Model X ice wagon heading to the Market Restaurant in Annisquam, and Cape Ann Marina’s stainless 2 ton flatbed (they hoped to beat the Cut drawbridge). The vintage Harvey Cape Pond Ice truck was last seen down Thurston’s Point:

Stephen LaPierre, an oil painter, is currently a member of the Rocky Neck Art Colony in Gloucester, MA.  LaPierre’s dayscapes and nightscapes follow  the tradition of ashcan school artists,  John Sloan, Everette Shinn and Edward Hopper.  Meanwhile, LaPierre, a Haverhill, MA native, always  adds his personal “colorificus” to each piece he creates, which he likes to call “approximationism.

Gloucester Meetinghouse Summer Concert

Stacia Kraft will be performing with her band at the second free Gloucester Meetinghouse Summer Concert Series concert July 13, 6 – 9 pm, at the corner of Church and Middle Street.

Stacia Kraft sings the American Songbook with classic style; a big alto sound with an honest approach to the lyrics.

Her program will feature jazz standards, folk songs, Broadway tunes, and spirituals with a superb group of swinging musicians: Tony Malionek – piano, Jon Dreyer-bass, Tom Duprey – trumpet, Miki Matsuki-drums. Trained at the New England Conservatory, Kraft brings emotion and sensuality to each song. You are sure to have a romantic evening of song under the stars, and leave wanting more.

The concert is free. In the spirit of giving to the community, concert-goers are encouraged to make free-will donations to Backyard Growers, which provides support to establish vegetable gardens at homes, housing communities, organizations, and schools.

After the Horibbles Parade

The clouds were beautiful as the Horribles Parade was coming to a close, then down on the boulevard the boats in the harbor made for a wonderful sight.
