Adventureman Interview!
On Wednesday the 27th March, after a year running exactly 210 marathons – more than 5,500 miles, from the westernmost point to the east coast via as many children’s hospitals as he could visit during his yearlong visa – Jamie McDonald, AKA Adventureman, will run his final six miles to the beach at Fort Point, Gloucester, Massachusetts.

And he’d love all the support he can get!
The mammoth adventure has raised more than $150,000 for sick kids so far – a cause close to Jamie’s heart, having spent the first nine years of his life in and out of hospital, with a rare spinal condition.
We’re inviting members of the public, of all ages, to join and support us. (Superhero outfits are optional but very much preferred!).
We have broken it down into a few stages to ensure people of all abilities can join in, and Jamie will be live-streaming to ensure people all over the world can be involved, too!!!
The route can be seen on Google Maps here: https://goo.gl/maps/Snm3sbYvgh52
*** 6 miles out – don’t worry, it’ll be a nice slow pace!
– Meeting point: Sweeney Park, 113 Summer St, Manchester By the Sea
– Time: 2.30pm
***1.7 miles out (if you’d like a shorter run)
– Meeting point: Hammond Castle
– Time: 3.45pm
***0.7 miles from the finishing point:
– Meeting point: Stage Fort Park (lots of parking nearby, apparently!)
– Time: 4pm
***Finishing point at the Fisherman’s Memorial Statue – where Jamie will dip his hand in the Atlantic Ocean, having done the same 5,500 miles ago in the Pacific!
-Time: approximately 4.15pm
After the finish, the nearby Beauport Hotel has confirmed they will be putting on a welcome celebration and reception for supporters, so please do feel free to join us to celebrate the incredible achievement… after which, Jamie will be back in the UK to attempt to break the world record for the most miles run on a treadmill in 7 days!
*** Please feel free to share this event far and wide – and tag your friends in, too! ***

Cape Ann’s Marina Resort and Mile Marker One we are really excited for the upcoming change of season with some new improvements! The Bridge Deck will reopen May 3rd for its sixth season. When we started the Bridge Deck we wanted to offer up a great waterfront restaurant where you could get outside, enjoy the views, come by boat and have a good time with your friends and family. As owners, our vision was to be inviting for all guests and enjoy our marina, hotel, restaurant and a casual place to chill on the water.
The last few seasons the Bridge Deck catered to A LOT of guests, to the extent in the height of our season, it became too much to really make sense. We found ourselves quickly hiring excess staff, fixing damages to our property, fielding complaints and overall more expense just to handle the…

Adventureman: Anyone Can Be a Superhero
Adventureman part starts at 5 minutes into the video below
The Lily Pond and the Little River host a small, but resilient population of river herring. These fish, alewives and blueback herring, migrate from the ocean to the Lily Pond, spawn and then return to the sea. The young fish head downstream in late summer. This is one of the few “runs” remaining on the North Shore, and also one of the oldest in the commonwealth. We would like to know more about when and how many fish travel upstream every year. You can help us by volunteering to count fish as they migrate upstream to the Lily Pond from the Little River.
River herring provide important forage for cod fish, bluefish, tuna and striped bass….all important commercial, recreational and sport fish for the City of Gloucester. Each spring the City of Gloucester hosts a river herring count at the top of the fish ladder by the West Gloucester Water Filtration Plant. Volunteers monitor the once a year spawning run from the Atlantic Ocean This is a wonderful activity for families, scouts, home schoolers, youth and adult groups….. suitable for all ages!
Volunteering is simple and requires as little as ten minutes of your time.
The count runs from April 1st to May 30 th .
There will be an informational training session held on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 6 PM in the first floor conference room at 19 Harbor Loop, Gloucester, and a field training session on Saturday March 30 at 10 AM at the West Gloucester Water Filtration Plant at 372 Magnolia Ave, Gloucester.
If you would like to count fish in Gloucester, contact:
Peter Seminara, Gloucester Shellfish Constable and Alewife Warden at the Shellfish Department at (978) 325-5248, by cell phone or text at (978) 949-1223, or by email at pseminara@gloucester-ma.gov.
E-cigarettes pose serious health risks for kids. “The U.S. Surgeon General has found that youth use of nicotine in any form – including e-cigarettes – is unsafe, causes addiction and can harm the developing adolescent brain, affecting learning, memory and attention. Studies also show that young people who use e-cigarettes are more likely to become cigarette smokers.”
Use of Electronic Cigarettes by Teenagers is On the Rise – According to a survey supported by the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) “E-cigarette use among high school students had skyrocketed from 1.5 percent in 2011 to 16 percent in 2015 (a more than 900 % increase.)
A Cochrane Reviewof the literature included 2 small preliminary studies looking at electronic cigarettes showed they may help reduction tobacco use, but more long-term study looking at negative side-effects is needed. Electronic cigarettes are NOT approved by the Federal…
