Local Resident Joins the Alzheimer’s Association for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Jeannine O’Neil of Gloucester will participate in the Alzheimer’s Association Neponset Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, September 14 at Patriot Place in Foxboro. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

O’Neil has had her fair share of family members and friends be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Her paternal grandmother passed in 2003 from cancer but had dementia a few years prior, her maternal grandmother had Alzheimer’s for 11 years before passing in 2011. On February 19, 2019, O’Neil’s mother passed away at the age of 66 from Alzheimer’s after a 7 year battle. O’Neil’s father, husband, and herself were all caregivers to her mother before her passing.

“Having been through it a few times, I felt I needed to do something to try and make a change,” said ONeil. “The Walk was something that was easy to do and wasn’t a huge time constraint for me. It’s incredible to see so many people from all walks of life come together to fight this disease at one event.”

“We are grateful to our Walk participants, they are raising the level of awareness in the community and their fundraising dollars fuel our mission,” shared Ryan Vigue, Director of Development at the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter. “People of all ages and abilities that join the Walk find it to be an inspiring and empowering experience. Together, we are working towards our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s disease.”

For information, to volunteer or participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, call 800.272.3900 or visit www.alzwalkMANH.org.

Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC's avatarCape Ann Wellness

All work no play makes an immune-deficient body.

In Ayurveda, Ojas is our protection, our immunity from disease.

Try a few of these tips from Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC to build up your Ojas…or contact us for a private consultation…

Building your Physical Ojas:

• Eat Seasonally. If we eat what is offered by nature seasonally and without much processing, our ojas will tend to be strong. We will then naturally crave that which is attuned to our constitution (Body type/Dosha).
• Move your breath through your body for 20 minutes upon arising.
• Cleanse or Detox in the Fall and Spring. Ama (undigested foods and experiences that store in our bodies) When Ama is less, ojas is more.
• Eat 2-3 meals a day. Allowing proper time for complete digestion enables ojas to be formed. Eating too frequently creates ama.
• Sip hot water throughout the day. Sipping…

In Defense of Sea Gulls: They’re Smart, and They Co-Parent, 50/50 All the Way

Besides, if people weren’t such slobs, gulls would never have learned about French fries.

Here are three good things about gulls:

They are devoted parents.

Males share child care equally with females. That includes sitting on the eggs during incubation.

And they have figured out a way — actually many ways — to survive in a harsh and unforgiving world. Some eat clams, some eat fish, some are attracted to landfills.

Of course, a few will divebomb you at the beach or boardwalk to steal a French fry, or the cheese on your cracker, or an entire slice of pizza.

The beach pirate approach to survival is, of course, where humans and gulls clash. And the outcry from humans is almost as loud and outraged as the cries of the gulls themselves. Several recent news articles have chronicled the predations of gulls and some possible remedies.
