Church & Library to Host Best-Selling Author

Annisquam Village Church and Annisquam Village Library Host Best-Selling Author

Doug Tallamy, best-selling author of “Nature’s Best Hope,” will be speaking Wednesday, December 14th at 4 p.m. via Zoom. In a free event co-sponsored with the Annisquam Village Library, the church’s Creation Care Team welcomes the community to attend.

A professor in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware, Tallamy shows homeowners how to turn their yards into conservation corridors that provide wildlife habitats. He will offer practical, effective, and easy suggestions to incorporate into your own yard.  There will be an opportunity to pose questions following the presentation.

Tallamy’s talk will launch the Annisquam Village Church’s new “For Nature” initiative.  The church’s Creation Care Team writes, “Out of our love for nature and recognition that we must live in harmony with it, we are dedicated to preserving the precious oasis of our small community and taking action to create ever more habitable natural spaces for plant and animal life to thrive.

Our mission is both clear and grand: By transforming our yards into areas that wholly welcome the presence of animals, pollinators, and native plant species we will be doing our small part to help the earth to heal so that this planet remains a place that can sustain all life.  Like a relay of illumination, we hope to inspire our neighbors to do the same.  And although we believe that each person can certainly make a difference — a community can make a revolutionary change.”

Community members who attend Tallamy’s talk and future monthly presentations, will be invited to sign “The Nature Pledge” by committing to take one or more action steps, like: allowing the leaves to stay on the ground in the Autumn; planting native plants and trees; instead of  pesticides or lawn chemicals, use only organic products in your yard and more.

To register for Tallamy’s presentation (and receive the Zoom link) or learn more about the Nature Pledge, email avchurch820@gmail.com or call the church at 978-281-0376.
