Hammond Castle Storytime and Bubble Party

Hammond Castle Museum's avatarCape Ann Community

Join us every Wednesday morning in July & August for Bubbles & Books on our seaside lawn.

Doors open at 10 am. Stories start at 10:15 am. Feel free to bring a blanket for your little one to cuddle with while we enjoy Storytime on the ocean-facing lawn. Don’t forget the sunscreen! We’ll have thousands of bubbles, coloring, snacks and music too! We encourage little ones to dress up in their favorite crown, gown or anything else that makes them happy!

We recommend arriving at 15 minutes early to allow enough time for the walk from the parking lot down to the museum, then for the check in process and the walk to the lawn. There are many steps. Please note, strollers are not permitted in the museum.

Very Cool Foiling (sailing) event on the North Shore

My name is Zaak Beekman, I am a long time Annisquamer, member of the AYC and current president of the US WASZP Class Association–the organization responsible for arranging regattas in the United States and North America for the exciting one-design foiling sailboat, the WASZP. This exciting young class is the feeder program for SAIL GP and the AMERICAS CUP. While it’s not in Gloucester, I thought your readers may be interested in this upcoming event since it is not too far away on the North Shore. Some may want to participate, and some might want to make the trip by boat to spectate.

On August 3, 4, 5, and 6 we will be holding the 2023 WASZP North American Championship regatta in Swampscott MA on Nahant Bay. (Wind and weather permitting.) The event is hosted by the Swampscott Yacht Club, with the Eastern Yacht Club providing the Race Committee.

Gloucester locals have the opportunity to experience foiling close to home in the following ways:

1. If you are new to foiling and would like to get your feet wet [pun intended], then please attend the ‘First Time Foiler Clinic’ offered on August 1st and August 2nd. Sign up at  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfQzboggXGGwzzg14tAlqKSYkxqU9NtadNllUonJ4yepyf0Vg/viewform (You must have some sailing experience, but this can be limited to optis/420s lasers, etc.)

2. If you are even more adventurous and have the appropriate experience, then you can charter a WASZP, attend the pre-regatta clinic and attend the regatta while getting coaching for July 31 to August 6.
Sign up at https://wecanfoil.org/event/waszp-pre-north-americans-clinic/#tribe-tickets . Prices are marked in Canadian Dollars. Please note that charter availability is limited, and that you should have ILCA/Laser and/or 29er, or comparable experience.

3. Spectate! The races will be held in Nahant Bay August 3-6. Regatta website is here: https://racehub.waszp.com/eventdetail/154

Thanks,

Zaak Beekman,

Greer Viau from Gloucester need for a living kidney donor

Dear Everyone

Not going to lie, we are devastated in any and every way parents can be. It has been since March 7 th since Greer has been on dialysis now for 11 hours every night. We continue to HOPE for a living kidney donor to come forward. If anyone has any further connections to do a follow up story, a new story, interview, podcast, newsletters, anything to spread the word not only to help Greer but create awareness.  This is my latest Facebook post regarding our son Greer Viau. Thanks, Donna J Viau

Maybe you don’t know him, never met him….he is so good, so kind, so persnickety, so smart, quirky and fascinating, so inquisitive, so fun, thoughtful and thought provoking. When I hang with my son’s I am in continual awe we were so blessed with two incredible young men, these sons of ours. Bob is beyond devoted. People think about a legacy…what did they do in life or with their life…we got this family of four and the gift of parenting these 2 men Greer & Dylan.

Now one of our gifts, Greer is sick. The kind of sick that an aspirin, a mother’s doting attention, warm ginger ale, cool clothe on the forehead won’t help.

Life threatening illnesses are any parents nightmare….waiting, hoping, the right doctor, the right hospital, the right treatment, the living donor coming, the pain, the hours connected to machines to keep him alive, the WAIT, the HOPE for a LIVING KIDNEY DONOR to Save his Life so he can HAVE A LIFE. It is all totally surreal….agonizing and consuming….each day we go on with NOTHING BUT THAT HOPE to hold on to. We are past the Why of it all and cling to the Hope. Could you Be the HOPE.

Potential Donors can learn so much from Rock 1 Kidney
