Veterans, service members, first responders and their immediate families are welcome to join Free Warrior Yoga class Mondays 6:00-7:00pm with instructor Kate Hamm at Treetop Yoga studio

Veterans, service members, first responders and their immediate families are welcome to join our Free Warrior Yoga class Mondays 6:00-7:00pm with instructor Kate Hamm at Treetop Yoga studio in Gloucester starting September 16th and running through December 16th. All levels welcome, from the beginner to the advanced.

Prolonged exposure to combat and operational stress are just part of the job for service members and first responders. Warriors receive some of the best training to prepare for facing extreme and dangerous conditions. However, without the tools and training to help to manage the impact of stress and other traumas, those who serve us are vulnerable to developing serious stress-related disorders.

Mind-body practices like yoga are increasingly becoming a more popular adjunct therapy within the military and first responder population. Even the VA has recognized yoga to be highly effective in managing pain and improving systems of depression, anxiety and insomnia.

A special thank you to Cape Ann Savings Bank, a Silver Sponsor of the Warrior Within Yoga Project, for helping to make this possible through a community grant. And a shoutout to Vionette Chipperinni, Director of Veterans Services, who started the conversation with Treetop Yoga about bringing this type of service to Cape Ann several years ago before she stepped into her current role in the Veterans Services department.

While Treetop Yoga will host the classes, the program is managed and supported by the Warrior Within Yoga Project, a MA non-profit.

Part Of Our Series Exploring Real World Experience With Electric Vehicles From Lyon Waugh Auto Group.

So far the spectacular performance of these vehicles is undeniable. I would absolutely buy an EV based on performance and cost savings. I wouldn’t buy one if I couldn’t charge at home. Charging at home as easily as hooking in to a charger and letting it run overnight to give you 275-350 mile range would last me a week easily. Again they aren’t for everyone but for people that do marginal amount of driving and can have a charger at their own home I think it’s an absolute no-brainer decision for so many reasons.

Thanks Warren Waugh and Lyon-Waugh Auto Group for the opportunity to showcase an unbiased, non political view of real world EV experiences. Cidalia Schwartz

It’s time to compete for the Oarmaster’s Cup.

Saturday, October 5th at 9 AM the International Dory Racing Committee will hold the annual Oarmaster’s Cup Race (solo dory race) to crown the best single dory rower in the land.  All members are welcome to compete, and the public is welcome to attend the races for some exciting waterfront entertainment!  (Rain date will be Sunday Oct 6th)

The course will start off the end of the dock at Maritime Gloucester and travel out around Ten Pound Island, then back to the start (approximately 1.75 miles).  The race dories are provided by the IDRC, but unlike the other races, this race allows individual rowers to compete head to head in a time trial with the best time winning rights to the Cup.  Refreshments will follow the races offering a chance for the winner to soak up the admiration of fellow rowers.  Don’t miss this battle of skill and endurance on the water in Gloucester Harbor.
