Gloucester resident KATY GERAGHTY has been nominated for "Best Leading Actress" for her performance as "Tracy Turnblad" in Neverland Theater’s HAIRSPRAY(directed and produced by Andy Diskes).
DASH Awards are given within the community theater arena for a variety of categories, including Best Leading Actor/Actress, Best Stage Set, Best Musical Score and others. "DASH" stands for "Distinguished Achievements and Special Honors," and is the community-theater equivalent of local "Tony Awards." The winners will be announced at a gala event held in Lexington on Saturday evening, August 27th. GOOD LUCK, Katy!, from your hometown of Gloucester!! We’re rooting for you!

I moved to Gloucester in 1981 and stayed for eighteen years before moving out to the southwest where I now live. I check out your site, lots of good stuff there, though I’m not sure I ever met you. I’m a good friend of Linda Amero and Co., she knows me well, and Henry F. and Charlie Olsen and many fishing people other and sundry. I lived on Rocky Neck for ten years, opposite the Chicken Shack in a brown house set back with two lions out front. Just about everyone knew everyone. I miss Gloucester a lot, and my friends especially.
I don’t know if you’d be the least bit interested but recently I started a blog and my last two posts are about Gloucester. There no doubt will be many more in the future. Just a fun thing to look at. I don’t suppose you knew Bill Sibley either, but George lives down there – and I did magazine articles about Larry Dahlmer and the Pung and the Boatyard for Wooden Boat Mag. None of that ‘published’ in the blog yet. Here is the link so you can get the Bill thing. The others are in the archives list on the right. I think I’ve only done 24 so far. It’s fun to do.
Wednesday’s postcard perfect day made for a wonderful Cape Ann Chamber’s networking evening out on the Essex River Boat Cruise. Harold Burnham’s Ardelle looks ready for sailing. She’ll be a beautiful sight in Gloucester’s Harbor. Maybe we’ll see her in the Schooner Festival!

ABOUT RUN GLOUCESTER! 7 MILE ROAD RACE
Run Gloucester! weekend will offer a 7 mile road race and Kids’ race on Sunday, August 21, 2011. Registration and packet pickup will be available on Saturday, August 20th and Sunday, August 21st.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 21, 2011
BIB PICKUP AND REGISTRATION – 6:00 AM – 7:45 AM at the Gloucester High School Field House, 32 Lesile O Johnson Road, Gloucester, MA 01930. Parking is available at the High School for Bib Pickup, Registration and the Race.
RUN GLOUCESTER 7-MILE ROAD RACE – 8:00 AM by the Gloucester Fishermen’s Memorial Statue on Western Avenue.
KIDS’ RACE – 9:45 AM on the Gloucester High School Newell Stadium Field. Kids will run a variety of distances based on their age. There is no registration for the Kids’ race, just bring them by!
FINISH REFRESHMENTS & EXPO – 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM along the canal next to Gloucester High School Newell Stadium.

DESCRIPTION
The Run Gloucester! 7 Mile is a loop course that will Start and Finish at the historic Gloucester Fishermen’s Memorial Statue on Western Avenue in Gloucester Massachusetts.
The race starts on Western Avenue. Once the gun fires, runners will head east on Western Avenue toward Rogers Street. They will take a left on Rogers Street, right onto East Main Street, Left onto Farrington Avenue, Left onto Atlantic Road, bear left to continue on Atlantic Road which turns into Nautilus Road, Left onto Bass Avenue, Right onto Main Street and Finish where they started on Western Avenue in front of the Gloucester Fishermen’s Memorial Statue.

Invading the City of Gloucester this week-end (August 19th -21st) will be another illustrious class reunion of Gloucesterites some still there and others coming back.
If you look at one of us more mature people and say that looks like so and so you may be right or if you say they look like they were let our for the day you may also be right too!
If you see us napping on a bench at the boulevard please do not wake us up as we are taking our much needed nap.
All kidding aside we are looking forward to reviewing our memories and coming back to our historic city and the best Cape in the world Cape Ann.
Joey, Mike Wheeler told me about this blog and I have not missed a day in the last two months and what a snapshot of our Fabulous North Shore and Thank You and your team for all their hard work.
How many Class Reunions can say that there year they graduated is 1961 upside down and backwards is still 1961?
My wife Diane and are looking forward to Farnhams for the famous Fried Clams, Cape Ann Museum Tour, Harbor Cruise, Azorean for breakfast, Stage Fort Park Festival, Duckworth’s Bistrot for lunch, Gloucester House Reunion Meal and Brunch, and Milemarker One for Lunch.
We will try and get pictures to send to your blog and my commitment is to vote everyday for the Blog and I really feel that it is the best for me!
Thank you Gloucester for letting me know that Gloucester was a great city to grow up and especially now that I have finally grown up (?) that Gloucester is one of the Greatest Cities in the world to live in and also to be from!!!!!

Well, it was a good day yesterday for kayak fishing east of the south tower at Thachers Island west of Londoner reef and the big iron pole. Water temps were in the low 70’s, sun was out, few boats were on the water.
Schoolie bass were rounding up on the surface, indifferent to all baits and lures but stippling the water then thrashing did the midwater column when the kayaks spooked them.
As any angler will tell you, bleed blues. Be sure to rip out….err, remove their gills.
Good eating!

In the world of sports, timing is everything. You can learn all about timing and capturing the action of the local sports scene this fall and winter at Cape Ann Television’s video and audio workshop, “Great Timing: Covering Cape Ann Sports with Passion and Precision,” on August 22 from 3-5 p.m. Hosted by award winning New England Sports Network (NESN) Supervisor George Vago, of Manchester and Cape Ann Production Coordinator Andrew Love, Vago and Love will share their recipes for the best sports event coverage: timing, technique and equipment. At the workshop, Vago and Love will teach techniques about capturing the key action and pace of the games. Vago has orchestrated numerous studio and field productions for the sports network and previously worked at CN8, WLVI-TV, Boston and WFSB-TV, Hartford, CT. During his amazing career, he has won numerous awards including Silver and Bronze medals at the New York International Film and Television Festival, the Telly Awards, the New England Emmy Awards and the Associated Press Awards. Over the past four years, Love has worked as a Cape Ann TV staff person empowering CATV members and volunteers to cover the excitement of local sports. Cape Ann can boast some of the most successful high school boys and girls sports teams in the area and you can be part of chronicling local sports history by joining the Cape Ann TV sports videography team! On the next Cape Ann Profiles show host Rich Sagall interviews Lawrence Martin-Bittman, a local artist, retired BU professor, and former member of the Czechoslovakian Intelligence service. He discusses his work in intelligence, how it affected him and how it lead to his teaching at BU.
