Meet Clarita! This lovely little lady just came to us all the way from Puerto Rico. She’s had a lot of changes in her life recently and can come off a little shy and uncertain of herself because of this but she’s slowly learning people aren’t so bad! She’s been meeting new canine friends here at CAAA to help build her confidence up as well. Once she warms up to you she’s a sweet and gentle baby girl who is sure to bring a smile to any face! We think she’d do really well in a home with another canine companion to show her the ropes and continue to help her come out of her shell. If you think you’d make a good match and are willing to give this shy girl a chance, please submit an application today! Once you’re approved, you will be able to meet!

GLOUCESTER — Fire Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department, along with multiple mutual aid companies, has extinguished a third alarm, wind driven fire at 84 and 86 Washington St. Crews will remain on scene conducting overhaul operations, and the public is asked to continue avoiding the area.
At approximately 12:40 p.m., Gloucester Fire was dispatched to reported flames coming from the back porch of a structure, and upon arrival, crews found heavy fire at the rear of 84 Washington St. before it quickly extended to 86 Washington St. Firefighters initially began an interior attack, but due to the construction of the buildings, operations were shifted to an exterior attack for safety. Due to the severity of the fire, a second and third alarm was struck, bringing additional resources to the scene.
Both homes sustained significant damage, and power was cut to both structures as well as the surrounding area. National Grid is on scene and expects to restore power to the neighborhood by later this evening.
Fire crews will remain on scene conducting overhaul operations to ensure all hot spots are fully extinguished. A board up crew is assisting with a lift, and a fire watch will remain in place overnight.
The fire displaced a total of 14 residents, with five from 84 Washington St. and nine from 86 Washington St.The American Red Cross is assisting all displaced residents. No injuries occurred to residents or firefighters.
The Gloucester Fire Department responded with Engines 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, Ladder 1, Forestry 3, C1, C2, and C3. Mutual aid assistance was provided by Rockport Engine 1, Manchester Ladder 1, Essex Engine 1, Hamilton Engine 1, and Beverly Engine 1. Beauport Ambulance stood by at the scene. Station coverage was provided by the Ipswich, Danvers, Salem, and Peabody Fire Departments. Additional resources on scene included the Gloucester Air Trailer, Rehab 5 and Inspectional Services.
Gloucester Police have closed Washington St. from Railroad Ave. to Prospect St. The road closure will be reduced as soon as possible.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Gloucester Fire Department and the Massachusetts Fire Marshal’s Office.

🥕 In this workshop, the Backyard Growers team will introduce you to the Square-Foot Gardening Method, which helps veggie gardeners make the most of often limited growing space to grow the most food possible for a household. We’ll show you how to do this by using gridded square-feet instead of rows.
🍅 You’ll work with us to create your own custom vegetable garden plan for the season.
💚 This is an interactive workshop. All are welcome!
Purchase tickets or reserve your spot
🎟️ Tickets are free for Backyard Growers Program participants (e.g. those who grow food with us in our Community Garden, Backyard Garden, or GrowBag Garden Programs.) Tickets are $20 for the general public. Proceeds from our spring gardening workshops are essential to support our work throughout the year connecting communities with equitable access to the resources, knowledge, and space to grow their own food.
🎉 THANK YOU for supporting our work and being part of our community!

Chief Edward Conley is pleased to share that Gloucester Police has welcomed Officer Patrick Hunt as the newest member of the department.
Officer Hunt graduated from the Massachusetts Police Training Committee (MPTC) Lynnfield Police Academy on Feb. 28 and was officially sworn in on Monday,
March 3.
Officer Hunt is a Gloucester native and graduated from Gloucester High School in 2021. After graduation, Officer Hunt decided to pursue a career in law enforcement and took the civil service exam when he was 19 years old.

“Officer Hunt is a lifetime resident of Gloucester, and I would like to welcome him as the newest member of our department,” said Chief Conley. “Wanting to protect and serve the community he grew up in shows great character, and we are excited to have Officer Hunt join our department of dedicated professionals.”

This concert, performed by Heinrich Christensen on the 1893 Hutchings/Fisk pipe organ with the Jubilate Chamber Choir directed by Mary Jodice, is the fifth in a series celebrating the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach. He was born on March 21st, 1685, and is considered the greatest composer of all time. This musical offering for the Cape Ann community is made possible through the generosity of H. Woody Brock.
The concert features selections from Clavier-Übung III, sometimes referred to as the German Organ Mass, a collection of compositions for organ published in 1739, based upon Lutheran chorales (harmonized hymn tunes), which will be sung a cappella by the Choir. The collection of pieces is considered Bach’s most significant and extensive work for the organ, containing some of his most musically complex and technically demanding compositions for the instrument. It opens with the majestic Prelude in E-flat and concludes with a monumental triple Fugue known as the “St. Anne,” depicting the Trinity in a glorious combination on the “organo pleno,” pulling out all the stops! Organist Heinrich Christensen is the Music Director of King’s Chapel, Boston.
The concert will be held on Friday, March 21st at 7:30pm in the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church, located at the corner of Church and Middle Streets (GPS 50 Middle Street). Parking is available on the green. The admission for the event is $35 General, $5 Students (all ages), under 12 free. An elevator is available from the side door at 10 Church Street.
