The Dog Poop vs Gum Poll…

During the taping of GloucesterCast 135 at Cape Ann TV I was completely baffled at the responses from the panel when asked which they would rather step in if they were wearing flip flops and didn’t have a choice in the matter- dog poop or gum.  Donna, Kenny and Toby all chose dog poop which is shocking.

Am I crazy for choosing gum?  I figure you can put ice on the gum and get it off, but I want no part of any flip flops that have trudged through dog poop. In the dumpster they go!

Where do you fall on the most pressing issue?

GHS DECA Cycling Club!

Hi Joey: My DECA students just started a DECA cycling club and we are riding before school on Wednesday’s and meeting for coffee at different places around Gloucester. My students have created a blog and we are hoping to do a charity ride before the end of the year. Check out the blog at decabikers.blogspot.com

This is from our school newspaper the Gillnetter: Not sure if you wanted to include this-just really cool to actually get seniors to do something before school at 6:00 a.m!

If you were asked to imagine the best way to experience Cape Ann in the morning how would you answer? The Gloucester High DECA program believes they have found just the thing. Starting with a well attended Wednesday morning rendezvous the DECA Bike Team has kicked off an expanding campaign of enjoyable bike riding, and promotion of better environmental consciousness. Spearheaded by Mrs. Grassetti, the business teacher and focal point of DECA at GHS, the DECA Bike Team aims to encourage larger participation and begin a weekly charity ride.

Only one week into the young program the DECA Bikers have already spent two early mornings riding to local coffee shops and enjoying the morning atmosphere. Mrs. Grassetti found herself “pleasantly surprised by the amount of students who actually showed up and how much they enjoy it.” The DECA program plans to expand the infant program by introducing DECA Bike Team T-shirts and beginning the Wednesday morning charity sponsored rides.

Senior Jared Marshall has taken to the new group activity with enthusiasm and even began a blog to document their rides and attract new riders. The group as described by Marshall, a track star nonetheless, is “just a bunch of DECA kids who love the thrill of the bike.” These bike lovers blog can be found at decabikers.blogspot.com; the group is planning future rides both for enjoyment and charity and would love more involvement from the GHS student body. Their blog is simple to navigate and announces planned rides. Mrs. Grassetti has been pleased so far with their results and is “looking forward to keeping the rides going.” So keep an eye out for the DECA Riders.

FISH ON THE LOOSE

Hi Joey-

Rumor has it that there is a giant fish on the loose in downtown Gloucester!
The kids at Beeman Elementary school created this guy from recycled materials in art class at school, and now he is swimming around somewhere downtown! We think he got too excited about this weekend’s GPS Arts Festival and took off early to check it out. Please have your readers let us know if they spot him.
And I hope everyone can join in the fun this Saturday, May 9 when downtown is taken over with art displays, performances and even an outdoor painting project at Cape Ann Sculpture park. more info at thinkthebest.org and in this video.
See you there!

Underutilized Seafood Dinner to Benefit Maritime Gloucester

sam's avatarcapeanneats

As much as we hate to think about it, a lot of the seafood that was once associated with Gloucester is now no longer actually landed here. That said, there are still many, tasty species of fish that are caught off of Gloucester’s shores.

Latitude 43 and Maritime Gloucester have teamed up again for the Second Annual Maritime Gloucester Dinner to showcase underutilized, local seafood. The four-course menu highlights the fresh seafood and each course is thoughtfully paired with “underutilized” wine varietals, to offer new ideas for seafood & wine pairings.

The dinner will be held on Tuesday, May 19th at 6:30 PM at Latitude 43. Please call (978.281.0223) for reservations as space is limited.

A portion of the evening’s proceeds will go to benefit the Maritime Gloucester.

No time for drama.  Good luck to all those that try to drag me into their nonsense.   Life is way too short for grudges and negativity.

Every year that passes Buddhism and Buddhist principles make more sense.

I choose happiness and laughter. Try it on,  it’s a good fit.

The Stones of the Quarries Documentary

Hi. Hows it going?

My name is Rob Apse and I’m a filmmaker out of Boston, MA. Over the last year or so I filmed a documentary involving the granite quarries of Cape Ann. It was an Official Selection at both the Boston International Film Festival and Newburyport Documentary Film Festival. The film is also receiving a Gloucester Historical Commission Award on May 17th and will be screened at the ceremony as well.

I’d love to share it with the entire Cape Ann community and Good Morning Gloucester seems like the perfect place.

I hope you’d be willing to share it and more importantly, I hope you enjoy it.

You can watch the film here.

Take care and thank you for your time.

Nurses of Cape Ann and Around the World, Join me in the Celebration!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=UWLIgjB9gGw#t=1

Nurses make a meaningful difference in people’s lives every day. Considered by many to be the ‘Heart & Soul’ of health care, nurses often work long hours and put others’ needs before their own. Nurses work in a  variety of positions and settings, at the bedside in hospitals, extended care facilities and hospice, in wellness and integrative medicine centers, medical offices, schools, rehabilitation, public health and community centers, people’s homes, private practice, administration and even battlefields.

Historical nurse pioneers and leaders such as Clara Barton and Florence Nightingale were, and continue to be inspiring role models for nurses around the globe.
