Friday February 12 at 8:00 pm is comedy night at the Gloucester Area Astronomy Club! Club fave Glenn Chaple will regale us with his presentation on astronomy humor; Glenn will be briefly preceded by Steve Kolaczkowski with the low down on what’s up for 2016, presented in his inimical style. Hint: there will be planets galore, and even a transit!
But on to the main event. Last year we previewed a small excerpt of Glenn’s “Astronomy Humor” presentation and the full presentation promises to be a rare experience. Those who were there will tell you that you’re in for a laugh-filled and on-topic evening at the Lanesville Community Center. The parking is free, and there’s no cost. What’s not to like? So come on in for all the usual great stuff to eat and drink, and the always-great conversation with your astronomy friends; you don’t want to miss this one.
Backyard Growers (BYG) is a grassroots, non-profit organization helping to reshape Gloucester’s relationship with food. We provide resources and support to establish vegetable gardens at homes, housing communities, organizations, and schools. In the end we create life-long gardeners inspired by the power of growing one’s own food. For more information about Backyard Growers, please visit http://www.backyardgrowers.org.
2 yoga classes in 1 day. (We recommend back to back)
Why?
You know that feeling you get when you walk out of a hot power yoga class? Like your body, mind, and soul have all been run through a washing machine? Your head is clear, you’re healthy, and free from any discomfort? Imagine feeling twice as good.
Is it safe?
Yes. In fact it’s a lot better for you than eating white sugar or drinking cocktails.
How do I enter in the drawing for a Month Unlimited?
Just come and take two classes in one day, any day in the month of February. Let the teacher or check in person know that you’ve doubled down and you will be entered in to the drawing.
Is it possible to double down my double down?
Yes! Check in on facebook (photos are a huge plus) at Cape Ann Power Yoga and a…

Set up the Kettle for the snake method using briquettes, cherry chips and mesquite chunks.
Got a third of a chimney going and dumped the asked over coals onto the left end of the briquette “fuse” looking to keep temps around 250 degrees for smoking the beef.
Applied Worcestershire sauce to the chuck roast and then coated with coarse salt and black pepper.
Once the pit hit 250 degrees tossed the beef on and inserted the probe.
Closed the lid and started chopping the veggies. Chopped half a green pepper, a whole red pepper, two jalapeño peppers with the seeds, three Cloves of garlic minced and a half of a red onion in
Not anyone else’s but mine. Not the metermaid. Not the City of Gloucester. Not the parking clerk. It’s Joey Ciaramitaro’s fault. Because even though I fed two other meters in different downtown locations just one hour earlier, I forgot to feed this one. It wasn’t a conscious decision to try to run in and run out of the store. It was just a mental lapse and I forgot. So it’s on me. I accept 100% of the responsibility and blame.

In an exclusive interview with Wide Open Spaces, Captain Dave Marciano of the FV/Hard Merchandise gives a sneak peak into the new season of “Wicked Tuna” on National Geographic.
Monday nights are about to be wicked awesome once again with the return of “Wicked Tuna” on National Geographic. As one of the most wildly successful shows on the channel, the fifth season of “Wicked Tuna” promises to be better and more action-packed than previous ones.
This season, six teams will be competing against one another to catch the most Atlantic bluefin tuna. As viewers know, some of the crews are recovering from a rough fishing season in the Outer Banks. Participating boats for Season 5 include the FV-Tuna.com (Captain Dave Carraro), Hard Merchandise (Captain Dave Marciano), Pin Wheel (Captain Tyler McLaughlin), Hot Tuna (Captain T.J. Ott), Wicked Pissah (Captain Paul Hebert), and newcomers, The Eric & Sarah (Captain Pete Speeches), a father and daughter team.
2016 promises to be an exciting new year for the IDRC, with new opportunities for those interested in helping to take the organization in a new direction. I have enjoyed my time in the leadership role of this organization for many years, but have decided it is time for some new people with fresh ideas to take over. I appreciate the many people who helped me over the years to maintain the dories, organize the races, set up the annual functions and Lunenburg adventures, as well as participate in or spectate the races. I could not have pulled it off with out all of your volunteer efforts, so thank you all. In my time with the IDRC, I hoped to introduce dory rowing and racing to the masses and make the organization more inclusive to all interested parties. We built our membership to over 200 members. We held a learn to row program and mentorship program. We moved to the digital age with emails, website, facebook page and even on-line dues payment. All of which can be done better in the future with your participation! I will continue to participate in dory rowing, and volunteer some time to the organization, but not in the leadership role. I truly hope that some of you many folks that are out rowing the dories all Spring and Summer will consider volunteering some time to help continue this great tradition in Gloucester. Please attend the upcoming membership meeting 7PM on Monday, February 8th at 28 Gee Avenue (barn) in Gloucester where we will discuss the changes and new direction of the organization. All members are encouraged to attend and volunteer to take a position on the board. Best regards, Erik Dombrowski Gloucester International Dory Racing Committee, Inc.

On Tuesday, January 26th, Awesome Rockport teamed up with the Education Foundation of Rockport to select one of three Rockport Middle School finalists to receive a $1000 grant to make Rockport more awesome. Kids from grades 5 through 8 were invited to participate, and there were 19 applicants for the grant! Three finalists pitched their ideas in public forum at the middle school cafeteria Tuesday night. Superintendent Rob Liebow and Mr. Jim Gutstadt represented the Ed Foundation and participated in the voting process as well.
The winning pitch, titled “Bee Safe, Bee Natural”, was made by three 5th graders looking to establish a honey bee hive in Rockport. The group wants to maintain the hive, train others about beekeeping, establish a source for local honey production, and help educate others on the challenges…
