Erika Tarantal gets to know Gloucester and the people who give it life. A local blogger gives us the expert inside tour, and Erika visits a community garden that promotes backyard farming. At the Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute, the fishing and biotech industries are working together on the cutting edge of marine biotech – and training a new generation of workers. A seaglass artist teaches Erika to make jewelry, and we visit Cape Ann Lanes, where the good times have been rolling since the 1950s.

Thanks so much for helping spread the word earlier today about our Golf Fundraiser happening tomorrow at Harbor 9! It promises to be a fantastic day of golf, socializing, and most importantly, supporting an amazing organization that’s been behind the scenes championing local athletics for years. 

While many in the community recognize us as the driving force behind the construction of Newell Stadium, our impact goes well beyond that. Since the early 2000s, we’ve contributed tens of thousands of dollars to help cover user fees for student-athletes in Gloucester, ensuring access and opportunity for all. But that’s just the beginning. 

Here are a few of our more recent contributions that have directly enhanced the athletic experience for students across the city: 

• An athletic trainer cart to ensure safety on the sidelines  
• A brand new wrestling mat for our student wrestlers  
• A Fully Automated Timing (FAT) system for our track & field program  
• A state-of-the-art basketball shooting machine  
• Financial support for the Young Legends Ball Hockey rink  
• Investment in the renovation of the GHS Tennis Courts  
• Ongoing field maintenance projects at local baseball and softball fields  
• …and much more!  

We’re also excited to announce that we’ll be drawing the winners of our “Chip In and Win” raffle at tomorrow’s event. A $10 donation gives you the chance to win free user fees for one season for a student-athlete. You don’t need to be a parent to enter—you can donate on behalf of a deserving athlete selected by the Athletic Director.

Meet Shadow! This gorgeous midnight beauty is certainly something special! Shadow has a personality that will win you over the second you come to say hello! His favorite activity is to curl up in a cozy little ball while you give him lots of pets and scratches. Shadow is about 4 years old and came to us from Puerto Rico.
