Come to the GAAC Holiday Party Dec 8!

GAAC is extremely fortunate to have Sky & Telescope Magazine Senior Editor Kelly Beatty as our speaker for the December 8 Holiday party, with a riveting presentation on “The Sputnik Years.” Kelly will show us how it all happened, who was involved, and what some of the many important historic results of that event have been.
October 4, 1957 marked the beginning of the Space Age, with the launch of Sputnik by the Soviet Union. The satellite sped by over the heads of the world, and the space race was on. Everything that came later, from John Glenn to Neil Armstrong, from the Mercury rockets to the moon landings, to the Voyagers and the Rovers, to New Horizons’ visit to Pluto, follows from this one little satellite.
Kelly Beatty has been honored twice by the Division for Planetary Sciences (DPS) of the American Astronomical Society. In 2005 he received the…

Meet the Crossfit Cape Ann Coaches!

Our coaches run every class as a teacher, a resource for questions, a motivator, a support system, and a safety supervisor. Our coaches are responsible for ensuring that your form is correct and that the exercise volume and load is adjusted to your current fitness level. Sometimes they may give you a nudge if needed to push it little more and other times they may encourage you to slow down. Beyond that, our coaches make themselves available to meet with our current members to discuss realistic goals, nutrition and to help them establish positive lifestyle practices. Our coaching staff is truly the best around!

Salmon On The @WeberGrills Smokey Joe
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say there is no easier to prepare and cook on a kettle food that scores more impress points than salmon.
Literally a half a chimney of charcoal on one side, you spray the salmon with olive oil, hit it with salt, pepper and whatever other seasonings you might like and you place it offset the coals til it hits 150 degrees internal temp.
So easy, so sensational. For the brothers out there- you got a date with a special lady? Hit ’em up with this recipe, it’s a panty dropper for sure.

Special Hanukkah Commemoration
Tuesday, December 12th at 5 pm
On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, Cape Ann’s Jewish community will remember the 10th anniversary of the devastating fire that destroyed our building, honor our Cape Ann neighbors who helped us rebuild, and look ahead to continued growth.
The event will begin at 5 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church (10 Church Street) where we held our Sabbath service the day after the fire. Then, we will parade down Middle Street to our new building with lights and music.
At the synagogue, we will light the Lobster Trap menorah and then move upstairs to our social hall for a brief program followed by refreshments and music.

http://traffic.libsyn.com/thebriny/Briny_Ep_3_pcast_mix.mp3
Every year, hundreds of Gloucester fishermen went to sea and never returned. Howard Blackburn should have been one of them. His story of survival against the odds made him a local hero, but he didn’t stop there. He went on to perform one of the great feats of seafaring – and then he did it again.
