According to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, the Northeast Region is currently at a Level 3 – Critical Drought.
As per state law requirements, the City of Gloucester is enacting a water ban on all nonessential outdoor water use. This includes handheld watering and drip irrigation.
We highly recommend reviewing some suggestions for how to be mindful of water use for conservation purposes:
Minimize overall water use whenever possible
Fix leaking faucets, toilets, and irrigation systems promptly
Take shorter showers and avoid filling bathtubs
Turn off the water while brushing teeth or shaving
Run dishwashers and washing machines only when full
Use water-efficient appliances and fixtures when possible
Monitor your water bill for signs of hidden leaks
Avoid unnecessary outdoor watering and use water wisely outdoors
We’ll continue to monitor conditions and share updates as they become available. For the latest drought information and conservation resources, visit the Massachusetts drought management website:

Stop & Shop to release Limited-Edition White Shark Marty plushies with portion of proceeds supporting shark research, education, and conservation.
(June 22, 2026) Chatham, MA – The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) is kicking off the 2026 white shark research season with a search to find a shark to name “Marty.” AWSC researchers announced they will name the first, newly identified great white shark of the 2026 season after Stop & Shop’s iconic in-store robot Marty as a salute to the local grocer’s renewed partnership and ongoing commitment to supporting AWSC’s shark research, education, and conservation efforts.
Stop & Shop will celebrate the occasion by releasing limited-edition White Shark Marty plush toys and donate 20% of the proceeds from each White Shark Marty to the AWSC. White Shark Marty plushies will be available in all Stop & Shop stores beginning June 22nd and are only available while supplies last.
“This partnership is a fun and engaging way to connect people to white shark research happening right off our coast,” said Cynthia Wigren, Co-Founder and CEO of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. “Each summer brings new discoveries, and we’re excited to invite the public to follow along on the research team’s Marty mission to tag the season’s first newly identified shark. AWSC works to advance the conservation of sharks through science, education, and outreach. By helping people recognize the vital role sharks play in healthy ocean ecosystems, we strive to foster informed coexistence and inspire appreciation for these remarkable animals.”
The AWSC encourages all beachgoers across Cape Cod and the Islands to be “Shark Smart” this summer by downloading the Sharktivity app and following recommended safety practices, including paying attention to flags and signs on the beach, staying close to shore when in the ocean, and avoiding areas in the water where seals are present.
In-store signage in Massachusetts Stop & Shop locations will highlight the campaign and include QR codes directing customers to AWSC’s Sharktivity app and website, encouraging public engagement with shark safety, research, and real-time sightings.
“This is our second year partnering with AWSC to celebrate the summer season on the Cape & Islands, where it’s important to help raise awareness around shark safety and conservation,” said Roger Wheeler, President of Stop & Shop. “I’m personally excited to add the White Shark Marty plush to my collection and to follow along as AWSC’s researchers hit the waters to find the real ‘Shark Marty’.”
AWSC’s research program focuses on advancing scientific understanding of white sharks to improve public safety and support long-term conservation efforts. Headquartered in Quincy, Stop & Shop ranks as one of the largest corporate philanthropic contributors in Massachusetts. In addition to this important environmental research, Stop & Shop supports regional efforts focused on combatting food insecurity.
About the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy Since 2013, AWSC has worked in collaboration with shark science experts, community partners, public and government officials, researchers, donors, friends, and followers to augment scientific research, improve factors that affect public safety, and educate both the local and broader community to inspire a greater understanding of white sharks and conservation of the species.
AWSC supports multiple long-term research projects in collaboration with scientists from Canada to Florida that seek to increase our collective knowledge of white sharks. Through AWSC’s public education programs that reach thousands of young people each year, the nonprofit provides science-based, hands-on learning opportunities that have lasting impact. Every season, thousands of Cape Cod residents and visitors from across the country learn about white shark research and shark conservation at AWSC’s Shark Center in Chatham, Massachusetts. Meet Clover! This beautiful young lady was found roaming in Georgia and was surrendered to a shelter down South but made her way up to CAAA in hopes of finding a family of her own. Although we don’t know her past we can sure strive to make her future great- some of her favorite things include large stuffed toys, most snacks and especially other dogs! She may be a bit shy when meeting new people, but with a little patience and reassurance, her loving personality starts to shine through. Clover is building confidence through meeting and playing with new dog friends, she adapts to different play styles and seems to be most comfortable with other canine companions! We believe she would be happiest in a home with a confident social dog to help her adjust to the big wide world. With time, love, and a little encouragement, Clover is sure to blossom into an amazing companion. Submit an application online if interested in adopting!

Gloucester, MA — Hundreds of people gathered last Sunday, June 14th, at Stage Fort Park for the Cape Ann Jewish Cultural Festival, a joyful community celebration of Jewish culture, tradition, music, food, and pride.
Hosted by the Chabad Jewish Center of Cape Ann, the festival brought together families, neighbors, local residents, visitors, and community leaders for an afternoon that highlighted the beauty and vibrancy of Jewish life on Cape Ann. The event featured live Jewish music, kosher food, children’s activities, inflatables, crafts, local vendors, community booths, and opportunities for people of all backgrounds to experience Jewish culture in a warm and welcoming environment.
More than just a festival, the day served as a powerful expression of Jewish pride and community connection. At a time when many Jewish communities are facing increased concern over antisemitism and division, the Cape Ann Jewish Cultural Festival offered a positive and uplifting message: Jewish life is not only about standing against hate, but about celebrating identity, tradition, faith, family, and joy.
“It was incredibly moving to see hundreds of people come together to celebrate Jewish life so openly and proudly right here on Cape Ann,” said Rabbi Avremi Raichik, co-director of the Chabad Jewish Center of Cape Ann. “The energy, the music, the families, the smiles, and the sense of unity all reflected something very powerful. Jewish pride is alive, joyful, and deeply meaningful.”
The festival included activities for all ages, with children enjoying hands-on crafts, games, inflatables, and special family-friendly attractions, while adults explored Jewish art, culture, food, music, and community resources. Local vendors and partner organizations helped create a lively and meaningful atmosphere throughout the afternoon.
The Cape Ann Jewish Cultural Festival is part of Chabad Jewish Center of Cape Ann’s ongoing mission to nurture Jewish life and community throughout Cape Ann and the surrounding area. Chabad offers holiday programs, adult education, children’s programs, women’s events, community celebrations, and support for Jews of all backgrounds and affiliations.
“We are grateful to everyone who came out and helped make the day so meaningful,” said Rabbi Raichik. “Seeing people of all ages and backgrounds come together in such a positive way reminds us of the important role community plays in strengthening Jewish identity and bringing people together.”
The full festival photo album will be released soon.

For some people, horseback riding may eventually become part of the journey. For others, the connection happens entirely from the ground. Both are valuable.
Foundational horsemanship is about relationship first.
It’s about learning to listen instead of force. To observe instead of rush. To develop confidence through understanding rather than pressure.
And once people experience horses in this way, something shifts. They stop seeing horses as simply animals to ride — and begin seeing them as intelligent partners capable of teaching patience, presence, and trust in a way few other experiences can.
The state of veterinary medicine has advanced significantly in recent years and thanks to the availability of more effective medicine, many pets are living longer than they would have years ago. With age however, comes the onset of problems such as arthritis and other forms of pain and inflammation. Conventional pharmaceuticals commonly used to treat pain sometimes have a negative impact on the immune system, GI tract, liver, and kidneys. Additionally, they don’t always work as well as we would like them to – for humans as well as our pets.
